What is your current job?

What do you like/dislike about it?

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

What is your current job? Graphic Artist...

What do you like/dislike about it? I love the graphic arts part, I don't like all the other various things I gotta do here... which are NOT graphic arts related. *sigh*

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A ?veterinarian, a jockey, an artist like my mother, a MOTHER. I turned out to be the later two, but am too tall to be a jockey and too impatient with math/science to ever be a vet.

What do you want to be 10 years from now? Alive? LOL. A Mars Colonist? A "successful" artist? Touring with my band would be nice, too. Getting REALLY really REALLY good at drums and getting over my fear of singing and drumming at the same time. Right now, I'd be like Francine on the cartoon Arthur if I tried that. WHOOP. I'm good at singing and decent on drums, but definitely not together.

What is your current job? Full time student, part time clerical work, part time PR intern

What do you like/dislike about it?

It's all pretty good, I can't complain!!

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

a teacher, a lawyer, marine biologist, director

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

Steven King of the tropics lol. Instead of my own cabin in the woods it would be fun to write books via my lap top on an island

I edit video for a tv news station.

I like what I do. I hate my hours (2am Sunday-Thursday and many Saturdays!) and I hate the fact that if the Broncos win on Sunday, I have to work non stop until after the Superbowl!

When I was real young I know I wanted to be a hairdresser! Then I wanted to be an actress.

10 years from now I would like to be doing the same type of work... but less stressful hours.

I also shoot wedding videos with my boyfriend so if that picks up, we could actually live off of that...

What is your current job?

Dental Assistant and Student

What do you like/dislike about it?

I love almost everything about my job! The only thing I hate is taking impressions on peoples teeth. Most people tend to gag.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

A dancer

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

A Dental Hygienist for sure....but maybe an Orthodontist

Me? For the past half a decade, I've been working as representative for a Union in NYC, Upstate New York, North Jersey and a bit of Connecticut. I handle grievances and arbitrations, negotiate contracts, do research, UI hearings, general employment advice and counciling, organize and my bosses use me as a tech lackey as well...

My job would be awesome, if I didn't have to deal with people all day, every day. I got a core group that I has been in the organization a while, but the turnover is pretty high. So I see my share of nuts and nutty things. I gotta admit though...it sure is interesting.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a physicist/chemist working in the energy sector. We took a field trip to the local nuclear power plant in 3rd grade, and I thought splitting uraniam atoms for a living would be pretty sweet. Now, I'm working slowly but surely toward a masters program in environmental engineering.

I guess I should answer my own questions. :)

What is your current job? Law student

What do you like/dislike about it? I love the material itself--it's challenging and intellectually stimulating. I HATE going to school though.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A world-famous musicologist!

What do you want to be 10 years from now? Lawyer (surprise surprise!) Oh and if IYE is going to be the next Stephen King, then I want to be the next John Grisham. ;)

What is your current job?

Music student and artist manager

What do you like/dislike about it?

Mostly love it, but my studies are suffering under the 24/7 aspect of my job. It's daunting being the person who's responsible for other people's dreams and careers, but I don't dislike it.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

A vet, but like Fos, couldn't be arsed with the math/science bit.

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

Doing what I do now, but making a steady income. And being the wife of the man of my dreams (at this point, it's more of a nightmare, but let's not get distracted by details).

Mimi

Im a bookkeeper for a small non-profit community service organization.

I love my job. Always been good with numbers. They dont argue unless Im the one who is wrong. Then I just find my mistake..and its over. I do, however, along with the rest of the agency, HATE our Executive Director...what a &^%*! Not an honerable person, doesnt keep his word on anything!

I wanted to be a vet!

I would like to be like I am now, comfortable with a cozy lifestlye, but Id also hope that by then Ill have found that proverbial "man of my dreams" that Id like to spend the rest of my life with! Thats the icing on the cake there!

What is your current job? I work as a Fraud Analyst for a national financial institution. I'm also going to school part-time for a post-bacheloreatte certificate in a paralegal program.

What do you like/dislike about it? I love the work itself. I have always loved the investigation aspect of things.... I have a very analytical mind and I've always had a 'gift' for being able to figure things out. The only thing I don't like is the politics of this office, but I guess that happens in a lot of places.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? When I was really young I wanted to be a comedian (interesting, I know)...when I got to be a little older I wanted to be profiler for the FBI

What do you want to be 10 years from now? I still want to work for the FBI, maybe in a different capacity -- they hire paralegals!!!! :D
I'd also like to be married to my sweetie and able to do the things in life that we both want to do, together :)

What is your current job?
I’m a graphic designer and nursing student.

What do you like/dislike about it?
I like my job because I get to interact with many different people. I also teach a computer class to seniors 4 hours a week and it has been great. The one thing I don’t like about my job is the political aspect. I work for the government and there are two departments that share the building where my office is held and sometimes the department heads do no get along. Never knew I would be a bureaucrat when I signed up for this job, but its okay.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I actually wanted to be some kind of scientist, a Red Cross nurse, in the peace core, or a CIA agent.

What do you want to be 10 years from now?
In 10 years I want to be a great nurse working in the Emergency Room or Intensive Care Unit.

Blah...I'm unemployed. BUT...I have a job interview tomorrow!!! And there's a job/internship fair at my school on the 7th that I'm totally going to go to...so we'll see what happens. *grin*

I like being unemployed cuz it's nice to not have to do anything or be somewhere all the time. It sucks cuz I'm BROKE.

When I was a kid I wanted to be Miss America.

In ten years I wanna be famous. Or working for a great PR firm that lets me be creative.

What is your current job?
I am a full time student and I am currently managing three rental properties.
I was a hairstylist (for about 8 years) until this past summer

What do you like/dislike about it?
I LOVE being a student. I love to learn, I love my schedule, I love the constant mental stimulation, I love everything about it - except for exams!
Now this property management thing sucks! I dislike, d*mn near hate, everything about it. But there are two things I like about it - it is pretty cool how excited some people get when I give them the keys to their new apartment :) and I live rent free cause of it :D

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I have no idea -prolly a mother.

What do you want to be 10 years from now?
I have no idea! So for now, like phos and christina, I alive and healthy.

What is your current job?
Distributor of 1.4g class C explosives. But in common terms, I'm in the fireworks business

What do you like/dislike about it?
Only busy twice a year. Lots of down time yet crazy at times. I dig that.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I really don't remember

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

ROFLAO! I'm a fireworks junkie. I swear, I spent around $500 last year after my short hour road trip up to PA. Whooo hooooo... some sweet doozies. My ex-husband (who is my friend, yipyip) spent about the same and we had a kick butt Crooked Chimney Ranch PART-AY blowing up huge arial rounds from 8pm until around 1am. WHAT FUN. Can I hit ya up for some good recommendations when we get closer to summer?

Oh man I am sooo jealous! I haven't fired any fireworks in SOOOO long!

In Texas they've got a burn ban going on right now...so it's not really safe to set them off. And I've got NO clue about any regulations here in NC regarding fireworks.

I wanna shoot off some fireworks! How fun!

What is your current job?

Order processor for an online site that sells wigs
Soon to be student at CSUN...hopefully.

What do you like/dislike about it?

I like the fact that I don't have to do much during the day and that I get the flexability to play on the internet when I'm not busy. I don't like that my entire office is Korean and they all speak to each other and I can't understand it. I guess it's a glimpse into what ESL students go through. Either way, it's a little lonely

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I wanted to be a lawyer, an astronaut, a paramedic, and a teacher

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

In ten years I want to be teaching college ad-junct and have one child, living in Texas and taking care of my mom and memaw.

Only ground items are allowed in NC, such as smoke bombs, sparklers, and fountains. But as I tell all my customers "they can't catch everyone".

If you're in southern NC we have a store near you.

jesique
01-26-2006, 11:22 PM
I'm in Raleigh...does that count as southern NC? I honestly have no idea...everytime I look at a map of NC...my head gets fuzzy...I miss Texas too much.

What other state can you live in where you can make your hand into the shape of the state?!

Take your left hand and turn the palm facing you. Then put down the pinky finger and the finger next to the pinky finger. Now your hand is in the shape of Texas! :D

What is your current job?
- I'm an ecologist working mostly for a rare species recovery team.

What do you like/dislike about it?

What do you want to be 10 years from now?
-Still working in ecology, but also writing and woodworking, maybe also being a mom and wife.

Current job:
High School History and Government teacher, I also work as an archavist in the Special Collections & Archives of CSU- Northridge. Grad student in history (archival administration & American South). I also have a teacher's credential (in CA) and a Master's in Education.

I LOVE my job!! All of them!!! My students are always teaching me new things, and I love how I could be teaching for 40 years and never ever get bored!!
I love working in the archives with primary documents! This is the real meat of history!!! It's only by coiencidence that I am currently processing the papers of my own union (United Teacher, Los Angeles)! So I have a personal conection to that! (I'm also the UTLA rep on my campus, but they don't know that i'm processing the papers!
I LOVE school, and will probably always be taking classes in SOMETHING! I'm currently looking forward to research trips to Natchez, Miss and Washington, DC this year. I am commenting on a paper at the Southwestern Historical Association conference in San Antonio in April (my OM Shane is presenting a paper at the same conf!! And we're both presenting at the OAH conf in Nebraska in July!!) Besides, being a grad student paid for me to spend 3 months in Paris this summer writting a paper on the French Revolution. (the women's march to Versailles, in Oct. 1789).

Where do I see myself in 10 years?
A PhD!!!!
And still teaching, or possibly doing educational outreach for a muesum, archive or historical society. Possibly both!!
When I retire I'd like to teach future teachers, I can't teach anybody how to teach! It's an art, you can either do it or you can't. But I can pass on my experiance to the future of American education (which will hopefully get better!!! It's in pretty sad shape right now!)

Wow, that's fascinating! When I was in the 7th grade, I was OBSESSED with the French Revolution. I had just seen the TV mini-series (with Jane Seymour) and started to read everything I could about it. That Halloween I dressed up as Robespierre (don't ask why) but of course nobody in my class knew who I was. :D

Hang in there Nadine. I was interviewed for tons of jobs at one point, and was consistently called back and told "Well, you are really great, but so-and-so had just a bit more experience" or whatever. Something I keep in mind now, is that if I don't get the job, it means that it's not a good fit for me....and the right one WILL come along.

So, it'll happen....and think of all the great interview experience you're getting. When the right one comes along, you'll be able to knock their socks off!

I LOVE the French Revolution!!! The absolute thrill of my life was this summer standing in the middle of the battlefield at Waterloo! Aside from 15 college students breaking out into spontaneous song (Waterloo, I was defeated you won the war! If you remember Abba.)
I swear the only way to study history is to experiance it.
I swear I could see the whole battle in mind!! Napoleon's over here, Wellington coming from the South, and Blucher closing in from the East.
I was GREAT!!!!

I agree! So glad I'm not the only one who likes to stand on an old battlefield in the middle of nowhere and replay the whole battle in my head. I did that four summers ago in Japan during my medieval Japanese history obsession phase. I spent hours puttering around this sleepy little town where the Battle of Sekigahara (their version of Gettysberg) took place. It was surreal!

OoOoOoo then y'all should come spend a night in my house. :D You can research the civil war train robbery at Duffields, WVA (on my land, thank you).

Here's other interesting tid-bits about my tiny little unincorporated town and my house:
William Darke (1755-1801). Captain Darke, who lived near Duffields in present-day Jefferson County, fought in the Revolutionary War, served in the state convention which approved the U.S. Constitution in 1788, and commanded a Virginia regiment in the Northwest Territory. [WV State Archives Portrait File]
http://www.wvculture.org/history/wdarke.gif

And we have our very own Screaming Jenny:
http://members.tripod.com/jayboy74/story73.html

And according to the former owner, this dear historical figure was born in my house:
Alexander, William Fontaine (1873-1941) — also known as W. F. Alexander — of Charles Town, Jefferson County, W.Va. Born in Duffields (now Darke), Jefferson County, W.Va., March 19, 1873. Son of William Fontaine Alexander and Ann Catherine (Henkle) Alexander; married, November 29, 1898, to Cicely deG. Woolley. Democrat. Lawyer; insurance business; member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Jefferson County, 1939-41; died in office 1941. Episcopalian. Member, Freemasons; Kiwanis. Died in 1941. Burial location unknown.

BUT, the coolest thing is knowing a big ole civil war battle and TRAIN ROBBERY occured on my property... Well, there should be some consolation to being surrounded by one abandoned dilapidated general store, another abandoned and even more dilapidated former doctors office, and on the other side the 2nd oldest standing train station in the USA (although, it is barely standing!!) and the dear tracks themselves. ;) But dang, finding links to the info the former owner gave me is hard. It EXISTS, I just don't wanna pay for it. LOL

LOL. I've never heard the Screaming Jenny, but that doesn't mean she doesn't exist. But, all of us ARE convinced we have an actual ghost... only its a child.

A month or so after I moved into the house, I walking into the great room with my son with a load of groceries and set them on the floor to start putting them away. Right before my very eyes, the three drawers opened slowly, one at a time in a "step" like fashion.

My heart pounded in my throat and I said, "G, did you see that?"

He said, "What?"

I leaned over the bags and pushed them all back in and stood completely still and we both stared at the drawers for maybe 30 seconds and then.. slowly, the bottom drawer opens, then the middle, then the top about 1/2 in the same step like fashion. I said, "THAT!"

G said, "What the..." (He was 8 at the time)

I leaned over the bags again and pushed them all back in and said firmly "NO."
They never opened like that again, but we have a lot of weird things that happen at the CCRanch. Things go missing and show up again right where they were, only days later.

Every one of us believes we have a little kid ghost in our house who is just there...

My current job is adjunct history/government and educ. tech. instructor for two colleges, and hobby-farmer.
What I like most about it is the chance to encourage non-traditional students and build their confidence, and I get to pass on my enthusiasm for history to them. I especially enjoy my Intro. to Computer classes for senior adults. What's not to like?
As a kid I had no idea of what I wanted to be.
Ten years from now I want to be doing what I'm doing now: being a husband/dad, teaching, riding my horse and motorcycle, and planning the future.

What is your current job?
College Professor Criminal Justice-specializations: deviant behavior, sexual behavior, drug and alcohol use, race and crime

What do you like/dislike about it?

Love my job. love seeing students who didn't give a shit about their university education do a 180 degree turn around, and love seeing the parents and grandparents who spent their lives in the coal mines come see their children and grandchildren graduate.

I dislike it when students who didn't bother to come to class, or spent the semester in class carrying on their personal conversations, or who didn't do any of the assignments WHINE about their grades. I also dislike all the politicing (sp?) I have to do to get tenure, and the abuse you have to take in the PhD getting process.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

An astronaut--which is ironic as I am now scared to death to fly

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

Just what I am now, only with tenure (next year is my decision year)

What is your current job?
Counselor in a residential transitional housing program for homeless women and their children.

What do you like/dislike about it?
I like knowing that I am having a positive impact on women who, until they came into our program, had led very difficult lives. The majority of them are there because of substance abuse issues. Many have lost custody of their children and are working to be reunified. I also like it because when I see them working very hard to succeed it gives me inspiration. I've always counted my blessings but I do it even more now.

What I don't like is sometimes feeling like a glorified babysitter and parent. I've learned that addicts don't think like everyone else. Besides the drug issues, and sometimes because of them, many of the women have prison records for various things. They are more street wise than I'll ever be or ever want to be. They could write a book on manipulation techniques. Sometimes it's hard not to buy into it. What's common sense to me is often not common sense to them. It's difficult to realize that they just don't think the way I do.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I come from a very theatrical family. My paternal grandmother and grandfather were dancers in vaudeville in the 1920's. My mother and father were always active in theater. So when I was growing up I wanted to be an actress.

What do you want to be 10 years from now?
A Peace Corps volunteer or a circus clown. :D Seriously, I can't predict what I'll be doing 10 years from now, but whatever it is I know I'll be happy.

What is your current job?

I'm a career firefighter in a Washington DC area fire dept.

I don't think my fingers are up for answering this one, good and bad. But I can say 20 year retirement means I only have 3.5 to go.

I'm still a kid, so I can't really answer that one.

What do you want to be 10 years from now?

You mean what do I want to do when I grow up and have to get a real job? Hmm, I'll get back to you on this one.
