Need Advice

My partner and I are exploring the possibility of having children. I'm 24 and he's 43. He had a vasectomy 13 years ago and we're wondering what the chances are of a successful reversal. I've done a lot of research over the internet and we're scheduled to talk to a urologist, however there is nothing better than actual testimonials. If any one could offer their words of wisdom I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi and welcome! You're in good company here because several ladies are in the same boat as you. :)

Chances of a successful reversal is excellent as long as you go to the right surgeon. You're doing a lot of research, which is good. It is important to find a urologist who specializes in VRs. In other words, don't go to your local urologist who only does one or two VRs a month. There are urologists whose ENTIRE practice is dedicated to VRs and nothing but, e.g. Dr. Sheldon Marks in Arizona and Dr. John Gatewood in Florida. Both doctors are worth traveling for.

I'm sure you know this already, but there are some excellent forums dedicated to VRs which you should consider joining. Dr. Mark's has his own board at www.dadsagain.com. There's also the vas_reversal group on Yahoo and the ivillage Vasectomy Reversal board.

He has GREAT chances of having a successful reversal. The most important thing to do is find someone who has done ALOT of reversals. The dr. we are going through does about 2 a week and has trained most of the other drs in our area in the procedure. He said hubby has a 90% chance of a successful reversal, and he's 25 years out.

My man never had a vasectomy or a reversal....but we're trying to concieve to. I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK even though I don't have any real advice!
