What City/town did you grow up in?

And did you like it? And what was it like?

I grew up in Rochester, NY. I moved to CO right after I graduated college, but I still frequent Rochester... my family is still there, but most of my friends who I grew up with moved away after college too.

Sometimes I wish I could live there because the cost of living is so low--- homes are cute and CHEAP and actually have LAND... Rochester is such a mix of urban/suburban/rural... you can be in QUITE the dangerous ghetto... then drive 5 minutes and be in a really upper-class suburb... and drive 10 minutes and be in farmland...

But the winter weather-----   TERRIBLE! I didnt realize that til I moved away though... I thought EVERY place was like that in the winter!
And the economy... not doing so hot, thanks to Kodak's problems.

The communist planned community of Reston, VA. :D

I still work there. So, I must like it. But there's something funny in the water, cuz at least half of my peers from high school ended up in mental institutions, major druggies or are still living with their 'rents.

Actually, the weather is perfect. All four seasons. Right outside of DC. 2 hours from the ocean, 2 hours from the mountains. Not much to complain about, except no one can afford to live here anymore. I sure can't. If I'd bought that townhouse up the road back in '95 for $125k and kept it, it'd be worth about $750k now.

I commute now. Live in a town a LOT like Reston was when we moved here in '75. It's growing like crazy, too, with $500k McMansions popping up across the tracks.. *shrug* I'll keep my little piece of historia, though, and laugh at their outrageous prices and cringe every time I see a new tax bill. :(

But, I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

ms boring reporting in...
grew up 10 miles from where i live now in the northwest hills of CT

grew up on a lake, small town of 30,000. basically the same population now as it was then. good memories, typical country girl here. but its beginning to change...becoming more of a "bedroom" community, or welfare town.. depending where ya drive. was pretty much blue collar when we had the manufacturing.

now its time to move on...

south!
;)
despising the winter months...

I was an army brat for a good part of my childhood..so we moved around a lot.

But from 7th grade on...I grew up in Copperas Cove, TX. In fact...my parents still live there.

My friends and I refer to it as Coffin Cove...and the joke is that if you don't get out within two years after graduating...you'll be stuck there for life.

Honestly...it's a great place to raise kids. In high school I didn't know anyone who did drugs or had sex or anything like that.

But if you're a kid...there's nothing to do but go to Super Wal-mart or Skateworld and try to pick up a G.I.

It's right next to the largest millitary instillation in the free world...so there's a ton of GI's looking for a wifey.

I wish I had a pic for yall!!! :D

This is fun...

Grew up outside of Queens on Long Island...went to school in Buffalo, NY for four years, moved down to Philadelphia for two years..and now i'm back in school on Long Island...:D

I think Rochester is a cool town, Skibunny. It's just about the only city upstate NY that is not declining. (Although you mentioned the whole Kodak thing and that's not good for the economy)...sigh...I loved that whole area up there...always meant to go hiking in Letchworth but never made it!!

Long Island is getting crowded...malls EVERYWHERE. I don't understand how people can't seem to stop SHOPPING.

I was born in Wheatridge, CO. (About 20 minutes outside Denver) And..I pretty much still live in the same area. I've moved around in all the little suburbs of Colorado...and I lived in South Dakota for about 9 months when I was a baby, but...thats about it. Colorado is pretty cool (except for all the snow that got dumped on us last night) and it has most everything you'd want.
Long Island is getting crowded...malls EVERYWHERE. I don't understand how people can't seem to stop SHOPPING. Sounds kindof like CO...but, I LOVE shopping, so I won't complain.

considering that is like the third time it has snowed in Denver all season... I am cool with it... and it helped that I have Fridays off...

In Rochester it practically used to snow constantly from October through May!!

I agree--I want our summers to be green, and I dont want to have stupid water restrictions (which we probably will) but I just HATE driving in it. People are stupid and the ice is just scary !!!

I will say (and yes, I am temporarily hijacking my own thread) that, coming from a place where there was ALWAYS snow (and usually not predicted) and cold temps and ice...

Denver does a pretty CRAPPY job and prepping and clearing the roads. I don't care how much it ruined my car, I MISS SALT!!!

Driving to work at 1am... they never even make an effort at that time, like "no one has to drive at this time, we wont start clearing til 5am"...

I have had SO MANY scary experiences which is why I am loving the very little snowfall this winter!

Ha ha. I have the most exotic childhood out of all of you.

I grew up in.............Hong Kong, China! :)

Actually I prefer living in the U.S. but gosh, I miss the food over there. Chinatown is just NOT the same. :(

I was born in Torrance, CA and moved to Grass Valley, CA when I was 5 years old.

Grass Valley is in between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. I love it here! There is not much to do in this town but it is so beautiful I dont mind it.

It is a small town and there are a lot of lakes and rivers so its fun to go hiking and wakeboarding in the summer.

I was born in Kansas City, MO. I grew up in Liberty, MO, KC suburb, which is where Jesse James did the first daylight bank robbery. When I was about 24 I moved to Denver and lived there for about three years. Then I moved back to the KC area until I moved to Richmond, IN a couple years ago. My address is in IN but I actually live in OH, right smack on the border.

I'm an I 70 bitch.

A tiny town in Northwest Ohio.

Where the only hill is manmade, fog delays are common, and the summers are nice.

I was born in Chicago and I've been somewhere around there ever since. I grew up living mostly in Chicago, but I always went to the public schools in Evanston (first burb north), so I grew particularly attached to Evanston. In fact, I LOVE Evanston.

The only other place I've lived was East Lansing, MI for about 2 years. Pretty boring, but I've been fortunate enough to travel lots and for extended periods of time, so it's all good with me!

From my background you'd think I was an army brat! I wasn't!! Just a lonely kid with REALLY F'd up parents!!! For those of you out there, Bi-Coastal custody arangements just DON'T work!!

Okay, I was born in West Hollywood, Calif.
Lived in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Northridge, Calif (famous for earthquakes, and the best teacher credentialing program in the US!!) till I was 7. Then came DIVORCE! From the time I was 7 till I was 12 my brothers and I spent 6 months in Northridge, CA and 6 months in Somers, NY (little town upstate) when I was 13 my mom left (Dad left the first time) and I moved to Leona Valley, CA. (bout an hour north of LA) MIDDLE OF FREAKIN NOWHERE!!! Nothing to do but smoke pot and get knocked up. I was the wierdo cause I didn't do either! (and my parents wonder why both of my brothers had/have a drug problem??) So lived there in the God-forsaken dessert till I was 15. 16 I spent a year in Waldport, Oregon with my Mum. Came back to Calif at 17, moved in with my grandma in Sherman Oaks, CA (in the Valley) and now we live in Encino, Ca. 6 miles from California State University @ Northridge, in my hometown!!!

When we get married Shane and I are either moving to Santa Maria, CA (home of good wine and Michael Jackson molestation trials!) to be near his mom and sister, or to Knoxville, TN where my mother grew up (all my extended family is there)

For the record, my mother now lives in Orlando, Fl and my Dad lives in Los Vegas, NV.

LOL, I was born and raised in the same small town I live in now. When I finished high school and started uni, I moved into the "big city" about an hour away. Once I finished, I moved back here. It's sort of funny place...it's got rednecks and hippies and then the urban types that have moved in, and also has redneck hippies...yes, it's possible!

I've also lived in the Yukon in a small town and lived in Guelph, Ontario while doing the first year of my masters at the uni there.

I actually don't really live IN a town. It's an unincorporated area, which means it isn't a town, it's more just a bunch of houses. There's about 600 people that live here, and there's a store and a fire/community hall. The closest town is a half hour away and has about 12000 people. The closest city is an hour away and is just over 100,000 people.

I think I'm incredibly lucky to live where I do. Vancouver Island (I live at the south end) is beautiful and has mountains and ocean. Also, I think it's amazing that my BF also lives in this community and he loves it too. I never thought I'd actually meet someone who lives here that I'd actually be attracted to!!

I was born in the most beautiful city in the world (i know..my opinion) San Francisco, California. My parents moved north to Sonoma COunty (California Wine Country) when I was a small child where I was raised in the city of Santa Rosa, and at the age of 21 I moved to the town I still live in today. Its just a wee tiny town nestled in the redwoods and a river running through it. Its very quaint, liberal and I say "Bohemic"

Only problem is....it floods, and over New Years Day weekend I took on 6 inches of water in my house (second story btw) which stayed for a solid two days.....Still cleaning out the slime...FEMA was finally here on Saturday to look at the damages, but for chissake, Ive already gotten my life back together....Im so glad I dont have to wait for government assistance normally...Id be dead already!

Anyone want to come for a visit? :p
