SierraNevada 01-25-2006, 04:57 AM And whats one hobby that you've never dabbled in, but have always wanted to?
My favorite hobbies are gambling (oh yeah, the ponies, I'll be posting pics as that season cranks up), messin' around with my computer (silly graphics, flash animations and a touch of coding here and there) and taking care of my fish. (http://www.itsnotmadcow.blogspot.com)
One thing I've always wanted to get into, but never did was directing, video editing...even digital. When I was in high school, me and my friends would do stupid videos and editing projects with VHS camcorders. We did a couple stop motion movies which were sweet. But took forever. Once we did a 20 minute movie called Pulp MacBection, which was the scene of Shakepeare's MacBeth ordering the hit on noble Banquo...in the style of Pulp Fiction, copied the soundtrack, costumes... Hysterically funny. I wish I had the crew and motivation to get back into that! I know we got some broadcast media and video editors here...lets make an age gap movie!
Emzak 01-25-2006, 09:15 AM Well, now that I'm slaving away in school, I have no time for hobbies. :( But before I was a one-dimensional drone, I spent a lot of time doing music--playing the trumpet and piano (classical and jazz). I also like to draw.
As for new hobbies, I'd love to learn how to build websites, and I want to learn how to edit videos too! Believe it or not, I still have raw footage that a friend shot of my wedding (just amateur stuff--we couldn't afford anything fancy) that I want to transfer onto my computer and then edit it. My ibook is too slow to do that though so I'm waiting until I get my new Intel iMac.
skibunny 01-25-2006, 09:16 AM A lot of my hobbies are outdoorsy and athletic things... I love to play tennis and softball... I like to go skiing every once in a while, though not every weekend like a lotof people out here.
We have a tandem kayak so we go kayaking... hiking, throwing a football around... biking...
except for softball, these are all things my boyfriend and i do together, so it's nice to share common interests.
Also, just going to the gym helps release some tension.
And sleeping.
And cooking, I like to cook! I think I'm good, my boyfriend does NOT but he's extremely high maintenance when it comes to food.
I tried quilting at one point, never did finish a quilt...
Annie 01-25-2006, 09:17 AM Favourite hobby is hiking. I love overnight backpacking trips, but day hikes will do. Also love mountain biking and boating - whether it be in a canoe, kayak, zodiac or sailboat.
Things I'd like to do...there's lots, but I have no spare time :( . I love woodworking, building things, want to learn to play guitar, learn Spanish, make pottery, do yoga, write....and the list goes on.
Ratwoofer 01-25-2006, 09:18 AM Apart from music (enjoying, creating, recording etc), I enjoy photography, art, films, video filming and editing, pets, traveling and being a geek with my iBook (which is being sent away next week to have the screen fixed - I'm wondering how I'll survive).
I wish I'd never given up on drawing and painting. Apparently I was an art prodigy, but when I was 16-17 I just stopped.
I also miss horseback riding a lot, but it's just too expensive and time consuming now.
Something I'd really love to do is to take up kung fu or some other type of martial arts and some kind of dance class as well.
Ariel 01-25-2006, 09:19 AM My favorite hobbie is wakeboarding...but since I can only do that in the summer I have taken up snowboarding in the winter. I dont like it as much as wakeboarding but it is starting to become more fun. I also like to go camping, ride quads, go fishing, hiking, and do other outdoor stuff. I also love to scrapbook....but I havent had much time recently to do that.
I have also been a dancer for most of my life. I have taken jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, and African dance classes. I would love to get back into it....but it just comes down to not having enough $ or time these days.
I am starting to take some Bikram Yoga classes next week. I am really excited about that!
I have always wanted to learn how to crochet. I tried once, but couldnt get the hang of it.
fos4snt 01-25-2006, 09:20 AM My life is a hobby. If I'm going to bother doing it, I better be enjoying it.
Aside from my job (graphic artist), I draw, do photography, play drums, read sci-fi, dance, sing, DRIVE, and work on the house... renovating, and not just small renovation projects. HELLISH ones, too. The kitchen was a blast, but the bathroom is stalled out midway through demo right now... luckily we have another bathroom. But, yeah. Major home reno projects is probably my biggest hobby. Maybe 30 years from now, this house will be done. For 6 months. Until I get another damn wild hair.

I also don't have time right now for hobbies other than listening to music.
But I love hiking and lots of other outdoor activities, photography, travel (if it can be considered a hobby), and dancing. And I have a weird one, well some people think it's weird, I love walking around town just to look at the architecture - but, if it's too cold in the windy city, I drive.
The one hobby I really want to pick up one day is playing an instrument, maybe the spanish guitar, or piano, or cello. But from what I understand it's really hard to learn to play as an adult, especially strings. :(

I think you should definitely do it. It's not as hard as you think. Yeah yeah, it's much harder to learn an instrument as an adult, just like it's harder to learn a language and pretty much anything else. But don't let that stop you! I've been playing the piano since I was 8, but a few years ago, I wanted to learn the trumpet. Now, even though I already knew how to read music, the physical demands of a trumpet is completely different from that of a piano, so I basically still had to start from scratch. I took lessons for two years and I had SO much fun! Even got to play in the school orchestra. :) I'm too busy right now to practice either instrument but I definitely plan to pick 'em up again once I'm out of school.
P.S. I also love Spanish guitar!

jesique 01-28-2006, 04:33 PM Man...yall are way more exciting than me with your hobbies!
My hobbies are reading...scrapbooking...eating...sleeping....not exercising...traveling when I have money...Stuff like that.
I used to camp a lot...i really miss that.
I want to do more indoor rock climbing.
Nadine.
Some Dude 01-28-2006, 04:35 PM Camping, now there's something I miss. Before I moved to IN me and my buddies went fairly often. Now I don't have anyone to go with. That usually wouldn't stop me, but I've fell out of the groove. Luckily Naya loves to camp as well and we plan on doing so quite often. We also want to buy an RV of some sort.
SierraNevada 01-28-2006, 04:38 PM GriffinsSabine...you like Santa Fe? AWESOME! We have friends in Taos and even though we haven't been there in a couple years...that's one of my favorite places! Nothern New Mexico is seriously the most beautiful place on earth. Some day I'll have to scan and upload the picture from on top of Wheeler Peak!
jesique 01-28-2006, 04:43 PM I used to live in Alberqurque (sp?), NM when I was a kid...it was nice....and Santa Fe is BEAUTIFUL!
I hated it though...but for personal reasons. (kids used to pick on me at school)
I wanna go camping this spring when it gets a little warmer...we live really close to a state park...and Alec's got all kinds of camping gear! *grin*
Nadine.
I have the funniest camping story for you guys...
Last spring me and OM were on this very romantic camping trip, we drove the state park for hours literally looking for a secluded lil spot by the lake...
We find it...set up...there is no one for miles, well at least 1/4 of a mile...we cook some steaks...sip wine and get ready to get crazy in our two person sleeping bag...and we do...and fall asleep
a few hours later (it got super cold), I wake up to little voices...and see lights all around...I wake OM up scared of what's going on and he peeks his head out....
There are literally 15-20 boy scout troops moving in, pitching these lil green tents with lights strapped to helmets...one of their tents was pitched only like 7 or 8 feet away from ours...and I had to pee sooooo bad...
I hold it and toss and turn for the rest of the night as the abnormally high boyscout voices die down...
at 6am the leaders blow a trumpet...Yes, A freakin TRUMPET....as a wake up call...
We get dressed and go outside to check out what was happening and there were boy scouts every where with PROPANE GRILLS cooking frozen Sam's sausages>>>> what little wimps...whatever happened to rubbing two sticks together...Seriously. It turns out there is a tri state boy scout meet going on...
Now don't get me wrong, I was not mad at the kids, I was mad at the troop leaders for not coming to our tent to let us know they were invading our site...
I went and found a man who looked like he might be in charge and I gave him a good peice of my mind...I made him really squirm when I notified him that I was ovulating and we were TTC...HAHA
We moved our stuff to another location right away and the rest of the trip turned out great, but it's just to funny:)The park ranger gave us 'free' camping for 5 years because he felt so bad...which is awesome!
SierraNevada 01-28-2006, 06:07 PM Camping so hard out here. We go up to the north woods of Maine when we have the time....but that's FAAAAR away on logging roads. Up in New York...the 'Dacks are great but its highly regulated and very very very very very crowded. If you want a water site where you won't get fined or booted, you have to make a reservation like a year in advance! It'd be nice to be out west where there is more room!
I love Taos and Albuquerque!!!
The Balloon Fiesta is so amazing!!!

Annie 01-28-2006, 08:08 PM Nadine! Come visit me anytime and we'll go climbing at the gym ;) . There's a great wall here, and when I was doing my undergrad, I climbed EVERY night from 10-11 pm (it was 1/2 price then). It's been years though - wrecked my wrist and now I'm just too busy.

Ohhh man...I am so there! There's a rock climbing wall at the gym here at NC State...but I'm so sick of figuring out new things....that I haven't wandered over there yet.
*grin* I'd love to come visit you though!!! Maybe one day!
Nadine.
Athenea 01-29-2006, 04:48 AM Digital photography, design, dancing, martial art, and language are first among the others.
Creative writing is the next I desire to explore to full extent.
