fos4snt 06-06-2006, 12:56 PM Well, seeing that some of us need a place to brag about our chillin's and whatnot... why not here. :D
I'll start! LOL
My son set up a lemonade stand over the weekend. Sold lemonade and chips. Did it for 2 days. Apparently had a blast and is terribly proud of himself. He made $23. AND got a good lesson in free enterprise and counting money for change! YAY.

Trish 06-06-2006, 01:04 PM That's very cool, Phos! Good for him!!
My daughter has had a job since she turned 15 (she'll be 20 in October). She started out as a bagger at a grocery store and when she turned 16 she became a cashier. Now she's pretty much working full-time and going to school full-time. I'm very proud of her work ethic. Now I just want her to make a career choice that will be something she enjoys and pays her well.
And she's a damn good kid, too! I'm very blessed! Although, she does sometimes make me want to rip my hair out and run away from home! :D
fos4snt 06-06-2006, 01:09 PM What kid doesn't, hon? LOL!
Yeah, I've got nothing but major appreciation for people who start being young entrepreneurs... I had a paper route at 12. Worked at the carnival running kiddie rides every year from 12-15. Got my first official job at 15, and my mom had to drive me there until I got my license.
My son set up his own lemonade stand on his own while hanging out for the weekend at my folks house (they had gone to VA beach for 3 days last week) and blew off running around with his neighborhood friends over there to run his "stand" and made some pretty good money if ya ask me! :D

Emzak 06-07-2006, 12:24 AM What a great thread!
C'mon, people, I know there are lots of proud parents on MTaG.
DISH!!!! :D

So the free market is not dead in America. This makes my day.
Right-o lad.
chikygrl13 06-07-2006, 02:01 AM oh that brings back memories.
One summer when I was about 12, my 2 brothers (then aged 10 and 8) decided they were going to sell sodas. We grew up on the perifery of Porter Valley Country Club, a rather swank golf course here in the Valley. My mom went down and bought CASES of soda at Fedco (anyone remember it?) The boys charged $1.50 per can (circa 1989). By the end of the summer they had raised enough money for EACH of them to buy a Nintendo Gameboy (they had just come out!, big boxy things with 3-bit graphics) and a few games each.
The boys always were entrepouners!!!
Trish 06-07-2006, 03:15 AM My daughter is one of the most generous people I know. She's always buying little things for her cousins and her friends. She always buys me special gifts for my birthday and holidays....even Father's Day because she says I've always had to be a mom and a dad to her. And she always makes me special gifts....those are the best kind. For Christmas she made me a scrapbook calendar. Every month has pictures of family and friends that are special to that month....she went through all my old photographs and made color copies of all the ones she wanted. It's one of the best gifts I've ever received.
Even though she drives me crazy at times, I really could monopolize this thread bragging about my daughter.
My son is great too....but he's a grown man now and living his own life. We aren't as close as I would like us to be....relationship wise or proximity wise.
jesique 06-07-2006, 10:23 AM Man...I wish I had kids so I could brag on them! I love reading about the cool things yalls kids do! :D
Reminds me of when I was a kid and a friend of mine and I drug a red wagon around with our junk in it and sold it to the other neighborhood kids. *grin* Like a traveling garage sale. :D
Nadine.
fos4snt 06-07-2006, 11:04 AM Well, in honor of my son's achievements in free enterprise, I decided to finish decorating his naval theme room. LOL. Then he can hold a yardsale at our house and sell off a lot of the CRAP we don't need or want anymore. Bwahhahaa. I think I can trust him on the "change" aspect, now. And maybe even teach him about bartering.
Anywho, I am bidding on these two little diddies for him ~ he doesn't know yet. Hope I win!!!

I think he will be pleased. He's got a ship obsession. I am perfectly happy to encourage it, too.

jesique 06-07-2006, 12:51 PM Phos...
That titanic one is soooo cool!
Nadine.
Hmmmmm sunken ships. That's a nice omen.....
fos4snt 06-07-2006, 01:00 PM He's had a ship wreck obsession since he was about 3, Poll. Anything to do with sinking ships, ship wrecks, sunken subs, maritime warring, etc. It's a bigtime obsession of his.
I need to teach him the saying, "Loose lips sink ships" tho, cuz he's got the dreaded "speak every thought" disease. ROFLAO.
~phos
jesique 06-07-2006, 01:05 PM Phos...
You should look for a reproduction of one of those cool old ww2 posters with the "loose lips sink ships" stuff on them. *grin*
I think that would be so cool next to the pics of sinking ships. *grin*
Nadine.
Are there any monuments or memorials in Virginia for the CSS Virginia or the USS Monitor? Just curious.
Phos...

Momma Nessa 06-07-2006, 01:39 PM girl child had her 8th grade 'completion' awards ceremony last night....
fos4snt 06-07-2006, 02:50 PM YAY Nessa! :D
Well, we won the lighted LED Titanic sinking poster. :D Excellent. *rubs hands together and giggles*
Those posters, Poll, RULE. Must look for some of them, too. OH how fun. He's just gonna LOVE his room. Especially since I also picked up for him a life preserver wall clock and put up a bunch of Anchors (small wallpaper wallsies), too. He hasn't seen either of those, cuz he went to VA beach last weekend and hasn't been home since. Tonight! And I will not be telling him about the cool lighted Titanic LED poster, as I'm having it sent directly to him for him to open.
~phos
P.S. He was out again yesterday selling more lemonade. And probably will be out again this afternoon, too, before he goes home. The kid is just lovin' running his own stand. Way to GO, G-man!
Momma Nessa 06-07-2006, 03:04 PM does he go to the marc station to do it?
fos4snt 06-07-2006, 03:35 PM No.. he's been doing it over at my folks house. They live on a fairly busy street between two apartment complexes.
Litical thinks he'll make more money doing it out at our house in the evenings this summer, as the MARC trains come in. :D I think Litical is probably right. We're gonna mention it to him later, so he can decide how far he wants to take his "enterprise." Hehehhehee. Three whole days is quite a commitment for a 10 year old boy, though. Next time some dumbass mentions ADHD to me, Ima gonna SMACK 'em, cuz no ADHD kid can SIT at a lemonade stand and stay interested in it. :D
~phos
Momma Nessa 06-07-2006, 04:32 PM i think litical is right.... and he's so cute i'd buy from him getting off that hot marc train. maybe you can sell the alcohol to put in it....
Polarity 06-07-2006, 05:02 PM How awesome your timing is:D Bryson and I have worked together all week on a "proper" letter, grammer and format for Gaelen. I thought I would do that as an exercise since he sucks at it and the teacher has been doing this all year. So Bryson could mail his letters to G. More incentive that way.
WELL:eek: Low-N-Behold a post card arrives for him from Gaelen!! Right when he was giving up with frustration:D YYYyyyyayahHHhoooo!! *cartwheels* now his enthusiasim is renewed:D
(I have the sneaky suspicion that your mom sent it.) I knew she and I were mind readers and "connected" but jeezzz!!!
~Jenna
fos4snt 06-07-2006, 07:00 PM ROFLAO!!! ACTually, he sent it on his own accord, but the card itself did come from some postcard booklet at my mom's house. He wrote it himself by his own initiative and handed it to me and asked me to put the address on it. :D I did.
:D It got there so QUICK! How  YAY!

~Jenna
Trish 08-01-2006, 07:13 PM  Dang, Jenna. In that picture, they could totally pass for TWINS. :o So damn cute! Where's the one of G and B?

OMG how adorable!!!!!!!
I just had a thought: wouldn't it be such a riot if they hooked up, say, 20 years from now?
fos4snt 08-02-2006, 02:46 PM Well, he'd be with an older woman then. ;) LOL Only by 10 months, but heh!
She says she's going to grow up and marry Bryson. That's the older one. Hehehhehee.
~phos
Emzak 08-02-2006, 02:55 PM Oh my goodness! Two brothers fighting over one woman.

chikygrl13 08-02-2006, 07:43 PM Good lord How tall is your son phos???
fos4snt 08-02-2006, 11:06 PM ROFLAO!! No one believes me when I say he's HUGE until they meet him and go GOD DAMN KID! :D He's almost 5' 7" tall now. And still only... TEN. :o He's taller then Jenna... and about up to my eyebrows. It's very strange nearly being eyeball to eyeball with your 10 year old. Very strange indeed. Even stranger being picked up in bear hugs, cuz he weighs more.
~phos
Polarity 08-02-2006, 11:19 PM "who's that guy?" ROFLAO!!!!! This is what I ask looking out the back door and seeing this dude I don't recognize walking up to the pool.
My son who is older (only by a month) is only 4'6!! And weighs only 66lbs. ROFLAO!! But he's tiny. There above is an example of the extremes in kids.
~Jenna
elle.jay 08-03-2006, 01:00 AM I must add, you guys have really cute kids.
