elle.jay 06-24-2006, 11:13 AM Okay, there were about 3 other threads about people finding new jobs...so I had to update you all on my situation.
As some of you know, I HATE the job I have now. Nothing to do, BORING, low pay. SO, yesterday, I got my new schedule for the Interior Design school I am attending this fall. The hours totally conflict with the job I have now. So, I went to the Target (and we all know Target rules!) by my house and applied, and I have an interview on Monday! ;) Now, it's not a guarantee, because they give everyone an interview, but...I think it'll go pretty well.
And I know everyone asks this -- and I can't think of a good answer -- but what is a good answer to the "what is your greatest weakness?" question? Anyone got any ideas? I have weaknesses, but they are nothing I'd like to talk about!! :o
Just had to let you all know, I think I'm finally getting out of my annoying job!!!

Usually what I say for that crappy question is this...."My greatest weekess is that I'm impatient for results."
I use that because...well I am...and also it's a weekess without being really bad. lol.
Of course..what do I know....I finally got a job when I didn't have to be interviewed! *smile*

Sdoah 06-24-2006, 01:43 PM Yep, you should always turn your weakness into a strength somehow. For example when they ask my greatest strength and weakness I always speak about my organization skills. I spin it something like this.
"While I am not a naturally organized person, which I find to be a weakness I know that it is the of the utmost importance for running a classroom. As much as it is a weakness, it has become a strength because I grasp the necessity of it. It's the very first thing I tackle, which makes my classroom run much smoother."
Something like that anyway. So, in an essence you've presented your weakness, but you've shown how you turn it into a strength.

Or something like "I get really involved in whatever I do, and I'm an extremely hard worker. I just have to make sure I've got a good family/work balance. Finding that balance is my weakness."

ByStarlight 06-26-2006, 02:54 AM My sister told me (she works in HR) to say "I believe that one's weakness depends on the postion, and in regards to this position, my weakness is probably that I'm not familiar with all the software, however, I'm more that willing to go out and purchase the software beforehand so that I can begin to famliarize myself with it." BLAH, something like that. It's all about wording it! last thing people want to hear is really what your weakness is and hear how bad it is ...
good luck too. ugh, I just contact 2 folks who contacted me about positions from an ad i posted. we'll see how it goes ... gosh i need a freakin' job and $$$$$$$

Also, I just interviewed people for a job for the first time, and it really does give you a different perspective on what the the people are looking for when they hire someone.
Once the skill and education level was assessed (ie I only picked people I knew could do the job for interviews) we went with the one who seemed to be the most capable, sensible, and easy to get along with (basically the one who suited the position the most). We all know that lots of people can do a certain job, but are they going to be someone that you'd want to work with? Anyhow, my advice would therefore to be yourself and illustrate how you are a good, capable worker and get along well with others.
elle.jay 06-27-2006, 10:57 AM Well, I just wanted to give everyone an update...I had the interview last night and it went fairly well (my nerves still got me...) but I have a second interview on Wednesday. It doesn't really mean anything yet...but I broke the news to my boss now, and told her I was looking for another job. She was sad, but she understands.

elle.jay 06-28-2006, 10:44 PM I'm not sure when I start...I have to take a drug test...and then go to orientation...so, I get my schedule sometime next week. I'm just happy!! I was really suprised...because I had my second interview at 5:00 today and I didn't think I did very well..but then they called me like...an hour after I got home. SO, I guess I did okay!!! :D
