How one person can make your great day...crummy.

Mine was going good till about 5 mins ago...and now I wanna cry. :(

This happened at work.

There's this file...it's for an American Indian packet...I didn't make the file...I didn't make the packet (the girl before me did all that before I even got here)...but I needed to open it and make some changes a while back ago. So when I tried to open it on my computer...for some reason...it wouldn't open!

So my boss and I got our computer guy R to take a look at it...and he discovered that it had been created in a different version of quark...and that's why I couldn't open it on my computer. So he moved it to the library for me...so that I could open it and work on it.

All was happy in museum land....I was able to work on the file....and 2,000 printed copies of the American Indian packet later...someone found an error.

Again...this error was totally not my fault..it had to do with a name change of one of the Indian tribes.

But it falls on me to fix the error...print out a copy of the new page...and give to my boss so she can make 2000 copies of it...to be inserted into the packets.

Well...today...when I try to open the file on the library computer...it tells me that Quark needs to be activated...otherwise it'll resort to demo mode. I don't know if you have any experience in Quark...but the demo mode sucks...you can't save...nor can you print. Well...you can print...but it prints with a huge QUARK XPRESS DEMO over your work. No bueno.

So I try to activate it...but it tells me that my network connection isn't working...so no go on that.

So I tell my boss...and we get R (our computer guy) on the case.

So R kinda gets upset with me...for trying to open the file with the wrong program...and I'm like...thats A) not my problem....the file opens fine...it's that I need Quark..and not a stupid demo version...which wasn't a demo version when I worked on it last month or so .....and B) how about you not make me feel like crap for a stupid project I had nothing to do with creating...and just got dumped into my lap.

So then he tells me that it's gonna cost 2000 bucks to activate it (which I don't see how that's the case...obviously we have the software...already bought...it just needs to be activated....if I hadn't activated my copy of quark that I bought...it would have gone into demo mode after so long also) ....and basically made me feel like crap and that it was all my fault.

All for a stupid project.

*sigh*

Update: R just stopped by my office and made me feel bad again...like he did me such a huge favor. :(

Ugh. I'm sorry! He sounds like "Nick- Your Company's Computer Guy" from those SNL sketches with Jimmy Fallon.

Try not to take it personally and remember this guy is being a dick.

Believe me, I work in retail, Nadine....I know how you feel. People think it's okay to shit on you, because it's your job to clean up after them and know everything about every freakin' product we carry. And when we don't know, were useless. I feel your pain, hon...I deal with that kind of shit every day.

I agree - try not to take it personally. Some people are just assholes to everyone.

Well, right now there are two of the residents that ruin my day for every shift I work....I'm ready to quit my job because of them. And it's more because I realize that I can't be professional with them. I'm supposed to be helping them and directing them to work towards a better life for themselves and their children and all I want to do is bitch slap them.

I think in any working environment.....and this is something I've learned over the years, and I'm really trying to get my daughter to accept it and realize it, is that sometimes we have to let things roll off our back. We have to do the best job we can do and then at times we have to let things go.

Nadine, you didn't do anything wrong....some people are just idiots....and they make themselves feel big and important by belittling others and making them feel small....

((((Nadine))))

Thanks yall...it helps to hear words of encouragement from yall. *grin*

I'm feeling much better about it all today. It's a new day and I'm not going to let yesterday bother me. :)

Thankfully most of the people I work with are totally awesome. (except dragon lady at the front desk...but no one really likes her...so we all band together in our dislike of her and her negativity) *grin*

Well, I had Friday off and I have the whole weekend off because all week I covered shifts for two people on vacation. My boss found coverage for my Friday shift and my weekend shifts (actually, she's working some of the shifts....God bless her!! :p ).....so I'm very happy right now cuz I can go to my cousin's Red Sox party on Saturday.....woohoo!!! Even though I'm not a big baseball fan....lol!

Now if I could just find a rich husband so I could retire..... :D ;)

Ugh. I think you should put some salt in his coffee when he's not looking. That's how I like to deal with workplace bullies. :p

I totally would....except he hardly ever comes in....and when he does he locks himself in his office (which is a total disaster area....he even has a cot in there!)

Ah, yes, the office computer guy. I've had issues with ours too Nadine, so I can relate. I HATE being treated like I know NOTHING about computers, which they seem to enjoy doing. Yup, gotta just let it roll off your back.

I can also relate to some seemingly small incident ruining your day. It happens to me pretty often - I think I'm way too sensitive to stupid stuff sometimes.

Annie...

I'm definitely way too sensitive to small things like that...especially now that I'm in a temp job...that really is up in limbo right now.....and I'm not totally used to an office dynamic.

My last big job was at Disney...where I worked outside everyday/allday long...most of the time for 12-14 hours straight. By the end of the day you were grumpy...but so was everyone else...there was none of the gossipy backstabbing that seems to go on in our office. You had your say with that person and moved on. You didn't have time to be upset or angry really.

So I'm totally not used to this office dynamic. lol.

But...just as an update...

I am totally over the issue...I saw R this morning and he was perfectly pleasant with me...and I with him.

I have other issues in other areas that i'm working on now. *small smile*

Oh, he definitely has issues if he has a cot in his office.....LOL!

Nadine, you're such a sweetie.....for anyone to make you mad they must really be a jackass and not worth your time.....I'm glad this guy decided to be pleasant towards you.....just don't be surprised if he flips again and gets nasty. He sounds like he has MAJOR issues.....

Aww thanks Trish.

I think he does have some issues...I've met his family too...but thankfully I don't have to deal with him very often.
