trying to conceive

emzak´s thread about kids and jenna´s response got me thinking about it. one of the first times i went ot the gyn, he told me it would be not-so-easy for me to get pregnant (i dont remember why) and from what i have read several times now here, there are days where it would be easier, could anyone explain me that?

i also read something about picking dates to increase chances for a boy or a girl, is that true?

Okay, as far as picking the "lucky" day for which gender you will. I think it's utter bullshit. You may be able to pick your gender choice in a clinic....

Your cycle is generally 28 days. On the 10-14 day stretch is when you will get pregnant. So if you start a cycle on the 1st you will likely get pregnant between the 10th and the 14th. It works I swear by it.

Think about BC pills. 28 days right? 10 pills in is when you start to ovulate. Until 14 pills in.

Nasmah, you should check out a wonderful book called TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY. I learned so much about my body and the reproductive process from it.

And yes, there is only a 3-4 day "window" during which a woman can get pregnant. You see, sperm can live inside the vagina for 2-3 days. When a woman ovulates, her egg only lives for 12-24 hours. So basically, in order for you to get pregnant that cycle, you would have to have healthy sperm already inside your vagina when your egg makes its appearance.

Even in couples where both partners have no fertility issues, your chances of conceiving each cycle is only about 20%.

I agree with Jenna....although there are probably certain dates that may be better for conceiving one sex or the other....it's really difficult to do the exact calculations.....so it's pretty much BS.

I know from personal experience....not my own but my cousin's. She bought a book that gave all kinds of ideas....she had me read it to give her advice on what to do....

It said to have the man drink coffee before sex....have sex with the man entering from behind (doggie style).....of course, that was all depending on the exact day before or after ovulation.....I got a little too familiar with when Susie and Mike (my cousin and her husband) "walked the dog". :D

With their first two children they didn't "try". They had beautiful girls. With the last one they tried for a boy. They had my gorgeous, adorable, God-daughter Annie....she's 6.

Maybe I'm old....and old-fashioned....but I believe we're blessed with the children we have. I have a boy......a man now....AND....a girl.....a woman now....I'm very happy that I just left it in God's hands.....

Call me crazy....but I "know" you're going to conceive and deliver a beautiful baby, Maria.....it won't matter if it's a boy or girl....

Nope. If you want to get pregnant, have lots of sex and don't use protection. LOL. It will happen if its meant to happen, unless you have some significant issue.

WOW!:eek: I stopped the BC in December. Got pregnant in January.

I stopped the BC in September, missed October because hubby was in Toronto for surgery. Turns out I only missed cuz he was actually needed in the room to make it happen.:D

I got pregnant in November. I did not want to get pregnant in November because his oldest daughters birthday would be my due date. Guess when I had the baby? Right on her birthday.

We had sex once in November. In that 4 day period. But I honestly thought I'd be okay.

My oldest son's dad had two girls before he had a boy. Same with my hubby, two girls before a boy. Now, I was told to get a boy.....no alchol,drugs which go without saying. No coffee, no caffeine of any kind. Well, the oldests dad didn't drink coffee and was on a all naturall kick at the time. Voila' a boy.

I was sneaking home decaf, for hubby and he didn't drink and voila' a boy. So do I think it was no caffeine that got me two boys? Yeah!!

But, only because that's how it turned out for me. You will believe anything like that if it turns out to be "right" if not you will say it doesn't work and I will say it does.

You get what god gives you. Same with a sick baby. You only get what god knows you can handle. Nothing more nothing less.

That is why I have one very high maintenance and one very low maintenance medically. God knew I couldn't handle anymore. But, I needed the oldest to grow up and learn from. You know?

My daughter's father drank A LOT of coffee, so I could see that. However, my boyfriend drinks plenty of coffee too, and I'm pretty sure there was some alcohol consumption on the night this baby was conceived ;). The sonogram seems to show pretty clearly that this baby is a boy.

I only seem to get pregnant when I try not to, though. My ex-husband and I tried to conceive for two years with no luck. I went back on the pill when my boyfriend and I started dating, and damned if I didn't get pregnant eight months later.

you know guys, as of late i have been thinking more and more about having a baby, and just the idea makes me so happy that i dont care so much anymore if it is a boy or a girl :)

Yes, but only if you have sex as close to ovulation as possible. For example, if you have sex on Day 1 of 4 and you don't ovulate until Day 4, you would actually have a better chance of conceiving a girl, because all the boy sperms would be dead by the time your egg comes out.
