From Russia with love...

Zdravstvuite! Hello!

Today in the spotlight we have........all the way from Veliky Novgorod, Russia........Miss Vicky! :D

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559

And since my Russian is...well...non-existant :p , she has graciously agreed to do this interview in plain English (phew!), so let's begin:

Vicky, your English is so good. How long have you been studying English?

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559:

I have been studying English for 16 years, last year is not actually studying anymore, but working :) . My two trips to the USA with a student exchange program helped me a lot to improve my knowledge, because I didn't have much chance to speak Russian.

Tell us about a favorite event of your childhood.

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559:

When I was a kid Russia was going through very hard times and my biggest happines was to get big boxes from a friend of my parents who lived and still lives in Texas. She had grandkids a bit older than me and all their clothes and toys were sent to me after they didn't need them anymore. No, she didn't just send old stuff, all the things were nice. I also got letters from her grandkids in these boxes and replied to them in English. The biggest happyness EVER was to get a REAL Barbie when no one in Russia couldn't even dream about it!!! I was the first girl who had a real Barbie doll from America! I'm very thankful to this lady who made my childhood so much brighter. Nowdays you can buy any Barbie you like in the store.

What is your most treasured possession?

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559:

My digital camera, I really wanted to have it and last summer my BF gave it to me as he wanted me to send him pics and I had no camera. I treasure it not only because of that but because he happened to drop it and breake it himself (I was sooooooo upset) and then took back to the USA to get it fixed and then he sent it to me with his coworker who was on a business trip in my city. I really love this cam and I bought a nice soft case for it.

Do you have a personal motto?

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559:

Yes - If there is a will there is a way!

Tell us two truths and one lie--the other members will be asked to guess which is which.

http://www.mindtheagegap.com/forum/image.php?u=439&dateline=1173113559:

Well...
1. I have been in the hospital for almost a year in childhood
2. I saved life of a drawning person.
3. There is an American guy permanently living in my town and he is in love with me. And he is 58.

Well #3 is obviously true, who wouldn't be in love with our favorite Russian?

I'll say #1 is the lie.

Russia is doing better in comparison to my childhood. When i was a kid my mom had wait in a line to buy milk. Now you can just go to the stire and get it. But prices are pretty high though...
I'm not telling what my lie is yet:p

Ok...I'm going to guess that the lie is #3, because if there really is a guy in Russia who is in love with you, why haven't you told us about it yet????? You know how much we like juicy details. ;) :D

I have read a few books, and watched many TV shows about Russia, and it has always seemed a interesting place to me, probably because it has a very interesting history too. I know things have been hard on the Russian people, and I hope your economy and conditions will keep improving to give people a better life.

I would like to go on vacation to Russia one day, and possibly the Ukraine as well.

thats such a great story about the barbie doll! We grew up poor and my sister obsessed about barbies and had an 'imaginary barbie' and her school teacher felt so sorry for her she gave us ALL her daughters barbies, and a barbie vanful of barbie clothes! Me? I got the barbie horses and the barbies that came with them became gypsies that liked to gatecrash and ruin my sisters posh barbie parties! :D

I dont know which is the untruth!

I'll have to say 3 is the lie. too much detail, american guy, same town, 58... that is my guess.

If number 2 is the truth and when you finally get to owning up to the lie, how did you come to save someone from drowning?

Vicky
03-17-2007, 03:36 AM
Ok, guys.
Number one is a lie:p . I have never been in the hospital for more than 2 weeks!!!
Number 2 explanation: I was about 15 y.o. We went swimming with my girlfriend who couldn't actually swim at all but was just learning. We went to the river with a quite strong flow. Very strong flow. I'm a good swimmer, but could hardly swim against that flow.
Suddenly I turn my head (as I was smimming further) and see she is drawning - I only see her head and SCARED eyes!!! I thought she was cheating on me but I swam closer and she jumped on me and we both started drawning!!! God helped as I had no experience in saving people. She just passed out after a while it wasn't too deep but I still couldnt touch the bottom and the flow made it worse!!! But somehow I made it!!! I have never been that close to death in my life!!!
Number 3 story (Em, I didn't tell about that cause I felt really bad about the whole thing and just wanted to forget that it happened): There is an american guy who lives here. And he is 58. He speaks Russian. He doest student exchange programs and owes business in the US (sells Russian souvenirs) and Saint-Petersburg. We met at work as he uses services of our office sometimes. It was before Halloween and he invited me to his party. It was really fun (I will post pics later when I get home as I'm at work and my pics are in my computer. BTW, can anybody explain to me whow do I post a pic from my PC in the tread, not in the gallery as I still have problems lol) and I made my firs pumpkin and I enjoyed the party. There were mostly students there. He makes parties in his house sometimes, I went to quite a few. I had some doubts about his behavior but a girl who knows him for 3 years assured me that "that's just the way he is and the way he acts, don't worry". She's as young as me. So, I stopped worry. 2 or 3 weeks ago he calls me and invites to watch a movie. I come there and it's only me!!! He said there would be more people... Ok, we drink some beer and watched a movie and then he tied to kiss me!!! Holly shit!!! I told him I have a BF and I loved him!!! I ran to the corridor to get my jacket and realized I forgot my purse in the room. I had to go back to get it and he satarted trying to calm me down like "I'm sorry" and staff and then... "just one KISS!!!". I had to tell him from the very beginning "I have a BF, I love him and we can only be friends!!!". Then I left his house. Next day he came to the office, gave a me a card (happy women's day) and tried to turn everything into joke. The card said: I know you don't love me but you love the presents I'll bring you from America - peanut butter and ranch dressing. Your friend Sean. He actually brings presents like PB not only to me, but many other people and he brought PB once to me but I don't wnt anything from him anymore!!! I never took him as a man. Some look very attractive and handsome at 58. But not him - he is short and funny!!! I don't know how could he even think I would be attracted to him, especially knowing I have a BF. I do not want to offend anyone who's BFs and hubbies are of 58 and older but this guy is just crazy!!!

Wow. I had no idea! Thanks for sharing. :)

Regarding posting pics in threads, here's what you need to do:

1) open a FREE account at a photo hosting site like www.photobucket.com

2) upload the pics there

3) they will give you a tag to use for posting those pics on another site--the tag will look like this:

[i m g]http://yourphotohostingsite.com/yourphoto[/i m g]

(but without the spaces between "img")

4) just copy and paste that tag as you are writing your post here

If you need more help, feel free to PM me. :)
