Interesting... Celebrity Age Gap Couples

I find it really interesting, after reading an article in the new Reader's Digest, that there could have been SUCH brooohaha over Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore getting married, that I never heard a PEEP about Geena Davis and her husband. She's 50, he's 34. I never would have thunk it.

And I never heard anything about Chrissy Hynde, either, until I looked through her bio. Hell, she didn't even become famous until she was in her 30s. (She's from The Pretenders)... and her man is 15 years younger and a hot hot hot sculptor.

I just find it ironic that the media didn't have a cow over Geena, but they sure did over Demi.

I think the media had a field day with Demi because they were BOTH considerably famous, and probably considered very different... as Ashton I think was widely known as just being a bonehead kid...

Wow, I had no idea about all those other couples Phos mentioned. Maybe Demi and Ashton WANTED all the broohaha and hired savvy publicists to make it happen. Kinda like Tomkat.

I have no idea why someone would marry Larry King, but his wife is much younger. Good lord that man is hard to look at AND listen to.

Geraldo's wife is much younger too.

VH1 had some show called "robbin the cradle" on. It's interesting.

Yep! All three of her kids were born in her LATE 40s. But hell, just look at her... she's a really, really young lookin' woman. I won't be surprised if she's around and HEALTHY in her 90s.

it is MUCH more acceptable for a woman to have an older partner than it is for a man to have an older partner.

Cokie Roberts in the book founding mothers points out almost all the founding fathers had younger wives and the ONE woman who married a younger man after she was a widow was scandalous....

and yes I love Geena Roberts

I thought it was funny when I was in the hospital having my twins, watching TV, a nurse came in and made some comment about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and their age gap and how shocking it was and he was too old for her and blah blah blah... my DH and I have the same gap. I told her and she got all embarrassed. People are so ignorant sometimes.

I don't get why it's so shocking. It happens everyday. It's happened in history. Why are we (in general) so conditioned to think someone near our age is more appropriate? So we can retire together? Cash our Social Security checks on the same day? What?

I'm feeling combative tonight. :o ;)

Great pics, Josephine!

Is it just me or is Michael Douglas NOT aging gracefully? It pains me to say it too, as I used to have quite the "thang" for him. :p

I agree, there's a desperation about his aging! Aging men are attractive, he should accept that. Bring on the wrinkles! :D

Joan Collins is scary!!

But what about Joan Rivers? She loves plastic surgery, and it is obvious by the fact that her eyebrows are half-way up her forehead, but for someone born in 1933 to look like this...

She doesn't really look that good.....maybe she did a few surgeries ago but I've seen her selling her jewelry on QVC and she doesn't look natural at all. In fact, her daughter, Melissa, looks like she's already had work done, too.

I dunno... someone who is 73 with no wrinkles? Blech. She is freaky looking IMO. You KNOW her daughter has already had work. Her mom probably paid for it.

My dad confessed to a crush on Melissa Rivers a couple of years ago! I thought I knew my dad...

I agree that Joan Rivers may have gone overboard, but her face was a little strange to begin with (angular/boney).

Compared her to a typical woman in her 70s:

http://www.helpandhealing.org/clipart%20for%20hopeandhealing/Senior%20citizen%20for%20web%20site.jpg

To me, it's a no-brainer. I'd rather look like Joan in my 70s!

Ratwoofer

I think I'd rather want to look like the 'older' 70 year old woman, to be honest... It doesn't mean you have to ACT old! It's all in the mind.

12-02-2006, 02:26 PM
I know a number of women who have allowed themselves to age naturally into their seventies, and they are all so beautiful, far more beautiful than a plastic face. There is something spiritual about older beauty that is at peace with itself.

Michelle1979
12-02-2006, 09:40 PM
I agree that it would be ideal to grow old gracefully and naturally.

However, if I look at the body modifications of the younger generation, i.e. dying hair, make-up, push-up bras, shaving, waxing, electrolysis, plucking, ear piercings, tattoos, braces, teeth whitening, manicures, perming hair, straightening hair, facials, diets... etc, I don't think it's much of a jump to get a nip and tuck.

I certainly don't think that someone who decides to have some work done on their body is any less spiritually evolved than those who chose not to.

Jo, excuse me while I say this publicly - the sentimental romantic in me believes, "however you look in your 70s, our rock solid commitment and incredible soul connection means I will still be there to see you."

The practical me says, "our plans for lifestyle, diet and exercise mean we can sensibly hope for a long and fulfilling life together."

Our 22 year age-gap, 3,000 miles of ocean and a mere 4 hour time difference proved to be not obstacles at all. Today I am shouting it from the rooftops, "12 months of email correspondence, 4 months of webcams and a lifetime of waiting will soon be over. My possessions ship on Monday, the house sale proceeds are banked on Friday and I fly out to you with all my love and optimism on 13th."

Personally, I would MUCH rather look like the "natural" 70 year old woman in my 70s. My grandmother, in her 80's, stone deaf and with the BEST sense of humor was absolutely, undeniably, one of the most beautiful women I've ever known in my life. She had wrinkles, age spots and arthritic hands. She has short and heavy and had short, curl, dusty brown hair and I never saw her for anything other then the incredibly lively and beautiful woman that she was.

When I am in my 70s and 80s, I will be what God intended for me to be. I will not fight the natural progression of aging. And I have never thought wrinkles or grey hair were "unattractive." In fact, I spent a lot of my teen years hanging out with my Gram at the Fellowship house she lived in, playing cards, scrabble and shooting pool with her and her friends who were all elderly. Oh, how they were a hoot! Wise and delightful and fun.

No, I won't be having plastic surgery, boob lifts, face lifts or botox. I won't be freaking out over age spots or wrinkles. I already look in the mirror and see my crows feet when I smile and they only make me smile more. I've earned them and accept them.

EWWWWWWWWWW

I would NEVER wanna look like Joan Rivers. Even when she was younger she was scary. She just has gotten way too much plastic surgery and looks like a streched out fish. Being rich is like the only desireable thing about her life, she seems to have a nasty attitude and looks sunken in. I'd rather age gracefully.

Wow 79 year old Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida has been dating a man 34 years her junior for the past 22 years. That would mean he was 23 and she was 57 when they started dating.

Gina says, "A woman at 20 is like ice, at 30 she is warm and at 40 she is hot." (http://www.lifeinitaly.com/italian-movies/gina-lollobrigida.asp)

Hmm... I wonder if she has had any plastic surgery...

I bet Catherine Zeta Jones had fun filming Chicago. Richard Gere looked a right fox in that!
As for Michael Douglas, the last 5 years have not been kind to him. He needs to stop the botox (or whatever it is) and grow old gracefully.

Ps. Harrison Ford and Callista whatshername came here on holidays a few years ago. It was in all the papers! (not much happens here!)
