hellodolly 06-21-2007, 03:56 PM If I were a salesman, I would probably shoot myself. I can't sell anyone on anything....I hate to convince people why they should spend their money. The first time someone says "I'm not interested" I back the hell off. Yep, salesman.
Blinocac200sx 06-21-2007, 04:00 PM Carol's. :(
Trish 06-21-2007, 04:05 PM Anything in sales...I don't have the personality for it...
And anything in the medical field....I don't have the stomach for it....
Goldfire 06-21-2007, 04:33 PM A mortician, cleaning up road kill, emptying Port-A-Potties, working in fast food (I did it in hs and HATED it), retail, sales (It takes a special talent which I don't possess), and a variety of other things. Although I am grateful that there ARE people willing to clean up road kill, etc. I mean, can you imagine being one of those people that have to clean up crime scenes?! I really am thankful that there are those kinds of people out there.
Vicky 06-21-2007, 04:44 PM Cleaning bathrooms, the so-called "bathroom attendant" :roflao:
NO!!!
luvinmyninja 06-21-2007, 04:44 PM Anything involving dead stuff !! I can't even eat meat !! GAG !!!!!

I think you summed it up my thoughts right. Add in anything that involves blood (all sorts of medical professions included), telemarketing, and those people who call to collect on debts and you have my list.

healthnutma 06-21-2007, 05:00 PM A MEDICAL EXAMINER/PATHOLOGIST!
In school I am currently dissecting human cadavers, and I can't handle it anymore. I gag, cry, shake, and have asthma attacks from this sh*t. I smell all the time, and have the worst anxiety and insomnia ever. Actually, I'm seeing a psychologist tomorrow!!!
(Sorry everyone, I just had to vent. This is too much for me!)
I'm in grad school to become an OT. I hope I will get through this course.
Gtsnapper 06-21-2007, 05:00 PM Food service, store worker. Im not very well composed first thing in the morning, and probably wouldnt deal with complaints very well:

Irish 06-21-2007, 05:01 PM What are those sewage waste holders that people have underground? I would hate to be the person who drains and cleans those. I saw a tv show on that once. I don't know how you would get the smell off you if that's what you're doing everyday :(
Irish 06-21-2007, 05:04 PM Oh Mary Ann that must be so hard - I don't know that I could do that. Hang in there.
I'd rather clean toilets for 40 years than be a realtor/salesman of any kind.

Yup, you said it for me too....
I also know I couldn't be a police officer or a fire fighter. I'm not that brave but I'm sooooo thankful that they choose to do the job they do. Oh, and I couldn't be in the military. God bless them all!!!

I hear the people who clean up dead bodies get decent money. They must wait around for people to die, or else they ain't gettin' paid!
Will you be able to handle the poopies that are inevitable with Doggy DayCare!? :p
Goldfire 06-21-2007, 06:14 PM Will you be able to handle the poopies that are inevitable with Doggy DayCare!? :p
Definitely. I handle enough crap daily anyway. I don't have a yard and I'm considerate so I have to pick up after two dogs about twice a day. Even when I had a yard I cleaned it up about once a week because it's just nasty.
Dog poop doesn't bother me. The SO practically throws up though. I don't get it. He saw murdered corpses all too often. What's a little dog poop in comparison?

Huh, wierd! You would think after cleaning up dead bodies :scared: , a little poop would be a walk in the park. I liken it to jumping out a plane, but being afraid of a little spider. You just can't explain these things
fos4snt 06-21-2007, 06:56 PM Irish - you mean a septic tank cleaner, eh? :D Well, Litical is a plumber (not a septic tank cleaner, but his job HAS been almost equally as nasty at times) and he has no problem with showering and smelling clean. ;) LOL
I there are very few of the jobs noted in here I'd have a difficult time with. I mean, I get the ick factor, but for some reason I can turn it off most of the time and just do what needs to be done. Not always, but most times.
I probably would have the hardest time as a beekeeper, though. I can't stand bees.
~phos
Irish - you mean a septic tank cleaner, eh? :D
I'd jump at the chance to be a septic tank cleaner. My dad just paid $192 to have his drained out.
Collect that money from several customers and it adds up.
fos4snt 06-21-2007, 08:27 PM Only $192? Boy, he gotta deal. We paid $250! :p And they do it rather quickly. But hey, its gotta be done! I'm guessing they can do 10 a day.
~phos
Irish 06-21-2007, 08:37 PM Well, I don't know... they probably made it look really bad on this tv show... the person who had the job didn't seem bothered by it, but the reporter who was trying to do it alongside of him was dying, and the septic tank cleaner was laughing at the reporter gagging from the smell. They were going inside some of the septic tanks and cleaning up the sludge (poop?) that adheres to the bottom. Okay... enough on that.
Plumbing is a great career Fos, although I'm sure not pretty at times!
We paid $250!
Cha ching!
Who's loaning me the money to buy a tanker truck?
Bueller...........Bueller........
Crysania 06-21-2007, 09:50 PM Yup, you said it for me too....

I couldn't be a police officer or in the military either. I could never be in a profession where I might have to take a life (police) or where my job is TO take lives (military). Anything that involves a gun (which I have a total phobia of) isn't something I could ever do. I'd rather go into the medical field than deal with guns!

Gtsnapper 06-21-2007, 09:51 PM Ive heard the Guys that go around all the campers at Nascar races, emptying their poop tanks, can easily go home with 4-5 figure sums in their back pocket after a weekend.

It's scary stuff. Again, I'm so grateful to those who can and will do it.
My SO has told me some messed up stuff. I can't imagine going to work everyday wondering what the hell was in store or if I'd lose my life that day. He did have to take a life once. We've only talked about it once. He had a breakdown about it early in our relationship. He (the guy he shot) was a fairly young guy (about 19/20) and had his whole life ahead of him. Apparently this guy had already killed someone and was shooting at random in a shopping center. Complete mayhem. He refused to cooperate and there was a stand off. He'd taken a few people hostage and killed one of them. My SO is the one who fired that fatal bullet. :( :( :( I cannot imagine. The guy's mom confronted the SO after the fact (called up the police dept) and screamed at him with grief and anger. My SO said all he could do was listen and take the blame. He said he apologized and cried. Bleh. My SO was doing his job, but to a mother... that doesn't matter in a time of intense grief. Sometimes I wonder how my SO came out of being a cop so sane. He's a relatively happy and funny guy with a great outlook on life. Still though, the memories have to haunt him. Sometimes I know they do because he talks in his sleep.:( :( :(
Major kudos and respect to all those serving our country. While we may not all agree on the politics behind it... Thank God there are people willing and able to try to protect us. Some of us don't have it within ourselves.
Annie 06-21-2007, 10:37 PM Wow, goldfire, that's tough. I couldn't imagine doing that job either.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a cop, or a vet. I can handle blood and other yuckies - the scientist in me just turns the emotional off. I'm also good in emergencies, but I really don't know if I could handle the lack of control (ie having a boss that commands you) and being faced with a situation where I might have to shoot someone.
I cannot sell stuff though, and I can't see myself doing a job that I don't see as important, at least in the long run. I've done my share of crappy jobs to pay the bills, but it drove me nutty.
jesique 06-22-2007, 09:49 AM Receptionist. I hate it. I hate talking on the phones. Add that to sales and you've got my worst job nightmare. I have to pep talk myself just to go to work. :(
I've done some crap jobs in my life...fast food...telemarketer...but nothing has been as bad as receptionist. People are so rude on the phone!!!
I also probably couldn't do most of the jobs named on this thread already.
I am forever grateful for those who can do those jobs that I just can't. :)
Nadine.
Ratwoofer 06-22-2007, 10:26 AM Telemarketing would probably be the worst, knowing how rude _I_ am when I receive unsolicited sales calls. I am a good salesperson, but only if the customer has expressed that they are in the market FIRST.
I wouldn't like to work with children, teenagers or in the health sector. I'm just no good at it.
I'd also not want to be the person who deals with the waste bins in the ladies toilets. Old tampons and such. Eeeew. I used to see them in the student accommodation where i used to live and wondered how they described their work to others. But I'm sure it's quite lucrative, seeing that very few people would do it.
Vicky 06-22-2007, 11:22 AM After reading all this I gotta say that I would hate jobs dealing with different kind of shit (like toilets, cleaning after pets etc) and jobs connected with killing creatures or working with dead bodies. By the way there is a really horrible profession that nobody mentioned yet - people who who kill and stuff animals and birds - it is worse than cleaning shit.
I could do food service - actually I did it and you don't want to know what sometimes happen in the kitchen!!!! lol
SierraNevada 06-22-2007, 11:53 AM I don't mind food service or retail so much...with one caveat. I worked at Barnes and Noble for years during college. They had a dress code that said you couldn't wear sneakers or sandals, even if they were like, skate shoes and looked kinda like dress shoes. Being female, this because a very difficult proposition for me. I hate wearing shoes. In fact, I don't wear shoes. I go to work now in a suit and wear sneakers. So I would have to say, I could do just about any job without hating it, as long as it didn't have a "shoes only" dress code.

Ooo...taxidermy. I definitely couldn't do that! That's just creepy. Also throw in the meat packing industry, butchers, hunters...eek.

Annie 06-29-2007, 09:10 PM Ugh...yeah, the person who kills all the animals in a slaughterhouse. *shudders* I couldn't do it, no matter what I was paid. Not worth it.
