Hey Poll....I have a Bruce Springsteen story....

Care to share it? ;)

Sure!

It's kind of long and silly....one of those "six degrees of separation" type things....

Anyway, when I was little (about 2, I think) my parents moved from Rhode Island to New Jersey. We lived in Rahway and Woodbridge (kind of central Jersey). As you probably know, Bruce Springsteen is from Asbury Park, NJ. In the summer time there were always concerts at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park. Alot of the popular groups from the 60's would play there. In August 1967 (I was 14), my girlfriend's mother took us to see Herman's Hermits (don't laugh....not only am I old but I loved all those groups...lol).

One day a few years ago, I was watching the Today Show and Matt Lauer was interviewing Bruce Springsteen. They were in Asbury Park and they were taking a tour of the city. They stopped at the Convention Hall (which has long since been remodeled), and Springsteen was talking about all the concerts that he'd gone to there and how he'd been influenced by so many of the artists he'd seen perform. Then he said "In 1967, I saw Herman's Hermits here, and the Who was one of the opening acts." That was the exact same concert I was at! The Who, along with the Blues Magoos (long since forgotten) opened for Herman's Hermits.

After I saw the interview I was so surprised so I did a search on the Who just to make sure I was right, and I was. It was the only concert they did during that time frame at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ.

So....long story short....me and The Boss were at a concert together when we were kids....he's a few years older than me. I might have been standing right next to him. Now that story, and 5 bucks will get me coffee at Starbucks....lol!

Oh, and the Who destroyed all their instruments on stage when they were finished playing. We couldn't believe it. It was the most wild thing we'd ever seen....

When I think about it, it's kind of amazing that Bruce Springsteen was there at that same concert, probably for the same reason I was, and he went on to become even bigger than any of the musicians who we saw perform. I guess some people would argue that he isn't bigger than the Who....I guess it's kind of apples and oranges. I'm a much bigger Springsteen fan....

Crysania - I have a few compilations that have some Solas and Lunasa songs on them and I really like them! I guess I listen to some weird stuff too. ;)

Just a couple of my favs that I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll be adding to the list as I think of them:

Delirium - Karma
Lhasa - La Llorona
Most Ottmar Liebert albums

Glad I'm not the only one! lol I always feel like I listen to really weird stuff because most people don't know who they are. It's always good to know some other people enjoy what I listen to.

Solas has always been my favourite band - their flute player is amazing (and ok - hot too!).

I feel like that too cuz most of the people in my life really only listen to classic rock or pop.

Luckily, many of my friends are into the same music I am - it's been how we've met and bonded. My boyfriend owns about as many Irish trad albums as I do...our collection will be amazing when we move in together this summer!

That's awesome . . . it's so great to have someone who shares your passion! :)

And damn, I wish I had some musical talent. I always think what a waste - I feel such a passion for music, but no talent. :(

It is absolutely wonderful to have someone who shares that with me - for me it was always a must...I couldn't imagine being with a guy who didn't share my absolute passion for music.

And you never know - you might find you have talent for something in music. You might just not know what it is. When I was a kid I wanted to play flute and when I first tried it turned out I couldn't make sound on it...at all. In fact, I'm still WRETCHED at flute. If I hadn't tried something else, I never would be where I am today!

I can dance - that's about as close as I get so far. But really, I can only "club dance." But that's why I'm starting a dance class Monday - to see if I might have some talent in that area (well, and for fun ;) ). Wish me luck!

damn . . . I think I just hijacked my own thread. :)

Dance is great fun! I took dance MANY years ago (stopped in high school)...I'd love to start again but I'm SO out of shape. Ugh.

Good luck with the classes! It sounds like a great thing.

And oops...so um...favourite albums people? ;)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAA ROFLMFAO!!! GWAR!!!

I lived in Richmond during the GWAR peak and development. All guys who hung out with my friends and my ex-husband.  OH DAMN the stories I heard of their shows. They aren't so much "musicians" as they are performance artists. The whole concept of GWAR was to entertain in the most disgusting ways. WHOOOOO HOOOOO hilariousness.

Gwar might be a prop band, but they do indeed rock.

Your socks they smell, your feet they stink,
You never take a bath.
Your nose it runs, you bust your buns,
You always finish last.
[Chorus:]
Sick! (Sick) Of!
(Of) Youuuuu.
I'm so sick, so sick of you.
Your face is gross, you eat white toast,
You don't know what to do.
It's just your luck, you really suck,
That's all - I'm sick of you

I'm not disagreein' with ya there, Some Dude. I think its GREAT they're on your list. I love it when non-locals know of them and that they have indeed made name and place for themselves. It's like when people tell me they know and love the Alternatives. I just go... dude, I went to ELEMENTARY school with their drummer.
