ReiRei 03-04-2006, 06:41 PM If you're like me, I have a HUGE sweet tooth! And I'm trying to lose weight *which is extermally hard..* Does anyone have delious low fat deserts that they want to share?
I have one that I found on the back of my vanilla cappuccino mix:
Two scoops of your favorite low fat icecream
2/3 cup of 2% milk (or if you want, skin milk)
4 teaspoons of vanilla (or any flavor) cappuccino
Put it in the blender and blend for 30 seconds
Serve and enjoy!
Emzak 03-04-2006, 06:49 PM Lucky for me, I don't really have a sweet tooth, but when I REALLY want a particular dessert, I have to go all the way or it just doesn't satisfy my craving. The skim/non-fat version doesn't do it for me, so what I try to do is have the real thing but limit my portions.
lov4life 03-04-2006, 09:46 PM You know you can take any kind of cake mix and just add a can of diet soda (coke or anything dark for a dark cake, sprite or something clear for a lighter color cake) in lieu of the oil, eggs, or whatever else it tells you to add. It's that simple.
Just put in the cake mix, the can of soda and I believe you cook it the exact same as the box says. It's obviously a LOT less calories. The only difference is that it's not QUITE as cakey --it's appearance is more like a brownie and it's more moist -- but to me, that's a good thing.
If you've never tried it.....I say...
TRY it....you might like it :)
jesique 03-05-2006, 03:43 PM Low-Fat dessert...isn't that an oxymoron?
YUCK.
Nadine.
AKA...fat ass who loves desserts.
fos4snt 03-05-2006, 04:20 PM Well, I like fruit salads. And I also like to get those flash frozen raspberries and just eat them frozen. As a kid, my dad would freqently set those out with sugar on them and let them thaw. These days they use that weird non-sugar stuff which isn't nutrasweet either? I don't touch 'em. Strikes me as weird.
Anyway, I prefer them with no sugar, no whipped cream... just open the bag, and pop 'em in your mouth to melt. Oddly refreshing and delicious.
But, in all truth, I don't have a huge sweet tooth. A box of banana bonanza ice cream would take me a month to eat, if the kids weren't all into it. ;) Fresh oranges... raw carrots... those are my kinda snacks.

fos4snt 03-05-2006, 04:27 PM I should also add, there is a LOT of evidence out there that "no fat" diets have the opposite effect intended if you're trying to lose weight.
Here's the deal: If you have a desk job, and not a physical job, and are battling weight issues... you need to cut WAY back on your carb intake (NOT fat). Sugars convert to carbohydrates. Carbs = energy. If you're not expending that, it converts to fat. Innundate most bodies with good fats (nuts, meats, cheeses, etc) then your body won't STORE fat. The body stores that which it is deprived of, so if you're depriving your body of fat, it will store whatever it gets. Opposite effect!! This is why the South Beach and Adkins diets WORK.
If you work in a very physical job, you need carbohydrates to fuel your body... but if you're just sitting around behind a desk or at class and not physically taxing your body, the thing to be counting is your carb intake, not your fat intake. And yep, sugars convert to carbs. Also, keep in mind, there is a lot of evidence out there that nutrasweet is terrible for your body and recent studies are showing that sodas in general can lead to cancers in some people.
Just thought I'd mention that. Don't beat me up, cuz I'm just tryin' to be helpful. ;) LOL

ReiRei 03-05-2006, 06:21 PM I won't touch nutrasweet with a ten foot pool...it's really gross...and I know about the no fat thing..I watch my calories more then I watch the fat...and for carbs, yeh I watch those too. But I'm not touching Akins with a 39 1/2 inch pool.
Annie 03-05-2006, 07:13 PM But I'm not touching Akins with a 39 1/2 inch polel.
LOL.....that's good because I was just going to throw in a bit about how Atkins isn't good either...too hard on the liver and kidneys etc.
I think you're on the right track, and everything that Phossy said is soooo true. I think drinking alot of water and/or other liquids (ie. things like soup, herbal tea) is good too. It's a good way to feel fuller while consuming less calories.
I say eat whatever you want for dessert, but make it a small portion, and maybe not an everyday thing.
Nasmah 03-05-2006, 07:20 PM i can only say:
cookie dough + hot chocolate + vanilla ice cream
well it cant be so bad right? :D
fos4snt 03-05-2006, 07:28 PM Well, a modified Adkins diet has worked for my Dad now for well over 10 years. I remember when he first went on it. He was weighing in close to 300 and on multiple medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. He did the diet full on, and dropped down to about 190 (at 6' 1") and then modified it and has maintained a healthy 220 or so since then. He's also off both medications and his levels are all normal.

Annie 03-05-2006, 09:42 PM Heh..well who knows then....obviously it works for some people. I think it might be best for older people, since from what I know of it, you need to stay on the diet, which is hard on the organs over time - processing all that protein.
I think I've read way too much about the negative effects of meat on the human body to really be able to think that a diet that includes alot of it could be good....but then again, I guess it's comparatively better than alot of people's diets that include alot of fast food and processed food. Hell, it's probably better than what I've been eating at this point. :o
ReiRei 03-05-2006, 09:56 PM LOL.....that's good because I was just going to throw in a bit about how Atkins isn't good either...too hard on the liver and kidneys etc.

Too much water could be bad for you though...so it's a good idea not to drink gallons of water each day..it could posion your system.
Annie 03-05-2006, 10:06 PM ..it could posion your system.
 What!!!! POISON your system? Maybe if you drink a ton of it from reused plastic water bottles. But yes, you are right in that there can be too much of a good thing - it messes up your electrolyte balance if you drink too much and can actually leach out too many minerals if you are drinking distilled water. On the other end of the spectrum, maybe you could get too many minerals if you are drinking well water with a high content of something...like iron maybe? But really...who ever drinks TOO MUCH water? Not me. I'd like to drink at LEAST 6 glasses a day, in addition to a few cups of herbal tea...right now I'm lucky to have the herbal tea, and rarely ever drink water (but all this water talk made me go pour a glass). :D
Another water tidbit...apparently it's not good to drink water with your meals because it makes you body have to work harder to digest the food (has to produced more digestive enzymes etc) and it processes it slower, which isn't good either.
lov4life 03-05-2006, 10:08 PM How is it possible to drink too much water??? I've never heard that
lov4life 03-05-2006, 10:10 PM oops, sorry, guess I posted at the same time as you did Annie...
all this stuff confuses me....
seems everything is good, while the same stuff is also bad....
my motto -- everything in moderation and EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE :D

lol..I never really heard of that either...I was on a web site and saw that and I was like
Annie 03-05-2006, 10:20 PM my motto -- everything in moderation and EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE :D
I completely agree with you. I'm also wary though of chemicals...so I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to "clean" food. I try to buy organic whenever I can, and avoid processed food.
Eggs are an example....there's been so much media attention to them...they're bad, they're good, they're dangerous raw, they're bad fried, only eat one a week, etc etc... Yeesh, people have been eating eggs forever, as long as you don't overdo it (moderation!), no big deal!
I also think that we are all built so differently that there's no "right" or "wrong" diet for each of us. We need to do what works for us. I think that some people have higher needs for certain things than others, and that you just need to figure out what works for you.
ReiRei 03-05-2006, 11:31 PM Everybody is different...me? I don't believe in dieting...though I do believe in eatting right. Not deprive yourself on stuff you enjoy...example..if you like cookies, eat one cookie every other week or maybe on the weekends.
skibunny 03-06-2006, 04:58 AM I must be poisoning my system cuz I drink like 5 gallons of water a day!

I like cookies... one cookie every other week? I lost 20 pounds and was still eating a few a day!
I exercise like a maniac though... usually. I am in a rut right now, but I try to work out 5-6 days a week for a couple hours each time.
jesique 03-06-2006, 08:29 AM example..if you like cookies, eat one cookie every other week or maybe on the weekends.
I could never do that! ME LOVE COOKIES!!!
In our house sweet stuff doesn't last. If one of us doesn't eat it...the other will eat it and tell them..."It was looking abandoned!" *grin*
Nadine.
ReiRei 03-06-2006, 09:35 AM LOL I ate a Chips Ahoy cookie last night...it was good! :D

Ugh, I have to hide sweet stuff... because my boyfriend throws it out! He HATES anything that's unhealthy/unnatural... and he HATES that I eat it, even though I try to cut back since I live with him now.
He threw my gum out because it had aspartame in it and bought me a $4 pack of natural gum. FOUR DOLLARS for gum? I was afraid to chew it!
Annie 03-06-2006, 11:35 AM Yeah...I'm sooooo bad for eating sweets and desserts. And I've found this great coffee shop near where I work that sells the best cranberry spice muffins so I've been eating one of those almost every day. There is no way I'd survive with just eating one cookie once in a while. Cookies are meant to be eaten in multiple! I had to stop baking cookies a long time ago b/c I can't NOT eat them all. So bad!
I'm in serious trouble if/when my metabolism slows down like everyone is warning me it will.

If I threw out sweet stuff.... Alec would kill me then have a heartattack! :D Thank goodness cuz I have a sweet tooth too.
But we try not to go overboard. We don't keep too many sweets in the house. Although I do make brownies a lot. *grin*
Natural gum??!!! Don't eat it...it's probably really gross. lol.
Nadine.

Sounds yummy! You know what we eat all the time? Sugar free/fat free pudding (Jello is still the best at this - try their chocolate fudge - it's delicious!) with sugar free cool whip (or the lite version - we stick with sugar free because my boyfriend is diabetic). It's SO good...tastes sinful but isn't.
