Goldfire 01-16-2008, 11:52 PM Every pet has their own personality. What makes your pet unique in terms of how they behave?
My youngest makes me feel guilty. I think he knows what he's doing too. He's young so he constantly wants to play. If I'm not up for it or busy he'll grab a few toys out of his basket and lay next to them. I'll come into the room and see him laying next to his favorite toys looking pathetic like no one loves him because they won't play. Of course, that makes me feel like shit and I play with him.
He also pouts. If I tell him no he turns his back to me and won't respond when I call his name.
The oldest always wants up on the bed. Sometimes I relent, sometimes not. The SO accidently kicked him off the bed in his sleep and he suffered a neck sprain. Had to get Xrays and everything. So now the SO is hesitant to let the oldest sleep on the bed. Sometimes I tell him, "Get in your own bed!" and he knows what I'm talking about because he relunctantly makes his way there whilst growling and showing me his teeth. All because he has to sleep in his own bed.
And some say animals don't have emotions or a personality.:p Hell, I had FISH that had personality. They used to fight with each other and would freak out when they saw me walk by. One would try to jump out of the tank when I passed by.
Share your stories, please!!:D
Blinocac200sx 01-17-2008, 07:46 AM Mellissa is a cantankerous old kitty. She's really attached to me. For instance this morning as I was headed to the shower, she had to tag along. She likes to play alot now that she's older, which is odd as she didn't play much as a kitten. She's also pretty quiet.
Hapa Honey 01-17-2008, 09:32 AM I don't have a pet any more, but I have lived with my mum's cat for a large portion of my life.
She is a very sweet, affectionate and loyal cat. Most of the time she is quiet, but once you get to know her she is a little chatterbox! Chirping all the time and sometimes marching up the stairs in the middle of the night meowing as loud as she can to announce her arrival. LOL
She spends a lot of time following and helping her favourite people (mum and me). Sitting on the table, supervising as mum folds some laundry and tapping at my pen as I try to write something.
She loves to be spoilt with your food and when she sees you have some kind of edible substance in your hand she will put her paws on the edge of your chair, open her eyes as wide as she can, tilt her head to one side and wave her paw at you slowly. Maybe she will even give you a tiny squeak of a meow to be even cuter. It doesn't help that she is very small with a sweet, round face and large eyes. Neighbours still mistake her for a kitten even though she must be in her eighties or nineties in cat years.
Another thing she loves is to be stroked. She's old now so she dribbles if you stroke her a lot. She loves being stroked so much she is willing to wake people up in the middle of the night even if it means getting shut out of their bedroom for being so noisy!
She is quite a nervous and timid cat, though. Seems to be more afraid of strange males than strange females. Probably because when my brother was little he would stamp around a lot and chase her. Every time the door bell rings she runs away somewhere.
She's quite intelligent and knows just from the look you give her that she is doing something wrong. Though if she really enjoys doing said wrong thing (scratching one patch of carpet behind my old bed), she will resume as soon as you stop looking. :p
Since she is old she is not as playful any more, but she will play for a little if she is in the mood. Most of the time she explores outside or sleeps now, though.
She's a lovely cat and strangely enough I miss waking up to her giant eyes inches from my face, staring as she waits for me to get up and immediately stroke her.
jesique 01-17-2008, 10:00 AM Trouble is somewhat of a teenager.
It's obvious that she loves us. She'll wait for us by the door for us to come home from work and then purrs and purrs while we pet her. Until she's had enough....then she bites!
We were out late on NYE and when we finally got home Trouble was pissed at us! She gave us a dirty look kinda like "Where the hell have you been?! It's past our bed time!"
Trouble loves her daddy. If he goes to take a nap....she curls up in bed against him. That's where she sleeps at night too.
She's kind of a princess. If she wants to go out on the balcony...then she meow meow meow meows at the door.
She's fiesty too. I like to pick her up and carry her around....which she of course hates. Then when I let her down...she'll bite my feet. I call her bitey. lol.
She's something else thats for sure. She gives us these looks and we just know what she's thinking. (usually..."screw you human. I'll do what I want!") :D

Some Dude 01-17-2008, 11:10 AM One of the funniest things Pete will do is sit on you. I dont' mean up on your lap, I mean he'll turn and face away from you and then sit on your feet. And he HAS to be on them, not the floor. My grandma laughed so hard at him when he backed up to their 4" tall step on their porch and sat on it like it was a chair.
If anyone of you met Pete you would understsand that I'm just not saying this when I say he has one of the best personalities a dog could have. He is so gentle, so friendly, and so full of love. And he has one hell of a personality. Usually looks like he's smiling too.
Now if Pete thinks I'm mad at him, well you never saw a head hang so low. He'll walk inch by inch over to me with just the tip of his tail wagging ever so slightly. If he had actually done anything he be upset until he knows I'm over it.
That poor dog gets upset when I'm upset at anyone. I really have to watch myself cause he thinks I'm mad at him when I'm just yelling at some idiot on tv.
Crysania 01-17-2008, 12:03 PM Teri is, well, a bit of a princess. She's a really smart dog and so she catches onto things quickly. For instance, when my mother did her hair, Teri would want to be holed up in the bathroom with her. It was a bit stuffy in there, so she'd always put a little dixie cup of water on the ground for her to drink. Well, Teri quickly learned that fresh water came from the bathroom in little dixie cups, so now she'll go sit near the bathroom and wait for you to bring her the proper water. Teri won't drink "dog water" too often.
She has to love being petted more than ANY dog I've ever met. When you're sitting in a reclining chair, she'll sit with her chin on the bottom of it and waits for you to separate your legs. She'll then jump up between your legs, and hang her head down (you can see her doing it here (http://pics.livejournal.com/crysania4/pic/000addkh), though she's not sitting in between anyone's legs), waiting for you to pet her neck area. She'll sit like that FOREVER while you pet her and if you take your hand away she doesn't MOVE...just waits. If you pet her enough she'll eventually just sag over and lean against your legs. It's the funniest thing ever!
She also likes to have her chest petted when she's sitting and if you stop, she'll reach out a paw and pull your hand back.
She's a really strange and pathetic dog!
Trish 01-17-2008, 12:36 PM I'm loving reading these stories about all these remarkable pets! They all sound so wonderful. I'd love to meet them all....well, I'd love to meet their owners, too.
My Reilly is the sweetest dog I've ever met (well, I haven't met Pete yet....lol!). He's a hoot. We adopted him from a shelter last April and he was a stray in Providence so we have no history on him. He came to us needing to be loved, and he came to the right family because my daughter and I adore him.
He's a cockapoo. I don't know if it's characteristic of cockapoos, but he never barks. The only time he'll bark is when he's playing. He doesn't bark when someone is at the door or when someone comes into the house that he doesn't know.
He hates to be home alone. Our work schedules are pretty much opposite times so he isn't home for long periods of time by himself. But my daughter doesn't like to stay home so she's usually out for awhile in the evenings. Whenever we come home, he's so excited that he won't stop jumping on us until we pick him up and hold him like a child. Once he gets hugs and he gives us "kisses", he calms down and we can put him down.
One of my favorite things to do is watch him sleep, especially when he's having a dream. He's barked and cried when he's having a dream. I usually find myself saying "Awww, it's ok, Buddy." LOL!!!! Talking to a sleeping dog....lol!
Right now he's in his bed with his nose buried in his blanket. As soon as I get up from here, he'll be up following me. He'll go upstairs to the bathroom with me and jump up, with his feet on my lap, and look at me while I'm sitting on the commode. LOLOLOL!!!!! Oh, he also likes to be behind me in the computer chair. He likes to lay down back there while we're on the computer. It's a pretty big chair but when he does that, I'm sitting on the edge.
I LOVE animals....even more than I love people....and I love people alot. :p ;) :D

You lucky people with pets!you will see when I get my doggie :p :D
mylife 01-17-2008, 05:42 PM Daisy - My 5 year old blue-tick beagle is funny as hell. She HAS to sleep not only on the bed but under the covers. She jumps up, uses her snout to pick up the covers, goes all the way to the end of the bed then turns around and comes all the way to the top so that only the tip of her nose is sticking out from under the covers. Oh, and she spoons. She also does this crazy ass thing every single solitary morning that without fail, makes me laugh my ass off. She goes out into the backyard and runs around (in the same pattern the whole time and alway the same pattern every day) like a lunatic. I call it "a puppy moment". It always hysterically funny cause I start talking like the announcer guys at dog tracks....."And here come sparky around the first turn" cracks me up.
Buster - My 5 month old Basset Hound is...well a Basset Hound. He's a huge lug. He finally just stopped tripping over his own ears a couple of weeks ago. He's a lazy ass. He's super sweet though, when you are approaching him and saying his name, he immediately flops over for a belly rub. Yes, FLOPS not rolls, he's way too uncoordinated to roll. He's a beautiful dog. But, unfortunately, he's dumber than a box of rocks.

You lucky people with pets!you will see when I get my doggie :p :D
Well, the doggie I've been describing is only sort of mine...she's really my parent's dog (though I was there when we "picked her out" and when we brought her home...and I lived home for a year).
I have no doggie in my apartment...*sigh* So I have to resort to seeing Teri and to helping rescue transports.
healthnutma 01-17-2008, 06:21 PM My beagle is part cat...I swear!!
She sleeps on the back part of the couch and climbs on the window sills (am I spelling that right?)! It's so cute! :)
She is a professional when it comes to begging for food. She blinks her eyes, smiles, and tilts her head at you! :)
However, she can be a b*tch at times. I will never touch her while she is sleeping or eating a bone. She would snap at me. I've tried to train her for years, and even sent her to therapy as a pup. I believe she has a mental illness!
I love her to pieces though. We sleep in the same bed under the covers, and she always steals my pillow! :)
She follows our family wherever we go, even when in the bathroom! :)
fos4snt 01-17-2008, 06:50 PM Both our cats think they are dogs. Happy lives outside and is definitely more the SIZE of a dog and thinks like a dog and is in no way afraid of the dogs we have, either.
Baron and Missy LOVE the snow. They are snow dogs. :D
Houdini, the new bengal cat... is insane. He lives up to his name. He can open any door and get out of any situation miraculously. He talks constantly. He loves the water. And his new thing? He EATS Chenele (or however you spell that). If there is a sweater or blanket left out made of the stuff, he annihilates it and chews giant holes in it. I was peeved about my sweater when it first happened, and gave it to him. Then he's taken to several of Nim's new blankies. Damnit!
He also steals Lira's smaller stuffed toys and destroys them. I guess he thinks they are his.
I give him credit.. he's got a ton of character and is a very eccentric cat.

tonythefatcat 01-19-2008, 06:51 PM I bought a Beta fish for work he was red and blue and we named him Frodo from LOTR and he was in a big glass vase. When we came in in the morning he would greet us by expanding his gills for fighting at us all the time and one time he actualy played dead on my co-worker!
I cleaned out his vase and I went on to do other stuff when she came out to me all frantic that he was dead! I was skeptic cause I just cleaned him out! So i went in there and he was floating near the top and I tapped on the glass and he just swam away! I laughed my ass off! I said he just played dead on you!
Tony is my big baby! He is my shadow I cant take a shower with out him being in the bathroom with me, he sits on my lap when im on the computer, he meowes at me when im in the kitchen begging for food!
He also sleeps under the covers and spoons with me! Spoiled 800 dollar cat! ha ha ha! Tony also taught himself how to play fetch with little mice!
Kitty is a total Drama Queen she only wants attenion when she wants it. And she protest to anything, I'll pick her put to hold her and give her attention and she meows like im killing her yet she starts to purr! lol She also likes to play tag!
